I keep going back to Monk, a musical love like no other.

'Boo Boo' being the nickname of Thelonious's daughter, Barbara Monk, and 'Green Chimneys' being the name of the school she attended....

I think Monk,for all his complexities,was a child at heart. That's why we love him. His own childlike approach is what touches us when we listen to him. But while his music sounds primitive to the ones who only listen with their ears,the ones who listen thru Monk's heart,reveal the many layers of harmonic and melodic complexity. Monk....a true paradox!

@TheloniousCube

"sounds primitive to the ones who only listen with their ears" - I don't think that's fair, Even "to the ear" there are deceptively complex harmony and rhythm going on.

@rememberbeginning

just purchased this on cd. It doesn't get any better if you ask me. This album would be in my top four. Simply love Boo Boos Birthday and Green chimneys too. Thank God for Monk. He was sooooooooo talented and cool too.
