Rise Above 2
T.V. Carpio Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When the ones who run the firehouse
Are the ones who start the fire
And the lawless make the laws
And every preacher is a liar
And the ones who damn the innocent
Well they own the nightly news and front page

An old man said to me
It's not who but what you know
And knowledge isn't wisdom without control
Better still to be the changes
That you want to see
But they come slow, I know

And you said rise above
Open your eyes up
And you said rise above
I can't, I can't

For every heart that bleeds
Will color your world red
And the sorrow in the night
Will be the blue you cannot shed
But your strength will be a vision
Beyond visibility
And the gift you have within
Will give you new eyes to see

That you can rise above
Swing through the skies above
And you shall rise above
Yourself

Know that I'll be watching
Know that I'll be waiting
Standing on the precipice
I can soar away from this

And you can rise above
Free your soul
Open your eyes up
Rise above yourself and take control
And you can rise above
The need to love
Yourself
To release yourself and rise above it all

And you can rise above
I will be there
Open your eyes up
You were never alone
And you can rise above
Inside your dreams
Yourself
I’ve been watching and waiting for you

And you can rise above
Open your eyes to love
And you can rise above
Yourself

And every heart that bleeds
Will color your world red
And the sorrow in the night
Will be the blue you cannot shed
And your strength will be a vision
Beyond visibility

And the gift you have before you
Will give you new eyes to see

Overall Meaning

The song "Rise Above 2" by T.V. Carpio is a powerful commentary on the corruption and hypocrisy present in society. In the first verse, the lyrics criticize the people in power, who should protect their communities, but instead, they are responsible for creating chaos and destruction. The second line refers to those who are lawless and yet contribute to shaping the law, while religious leaders are not truthful in their teachings. The idea of injustice in the world is heightened in the third line, as those who condemn the innocent control the news and media, leading to a lack of accountability.

The second verse contains the voice of an older man, who imparts advice that it is not only important to know things, but also to have control over that knowledge. He talks about the slow pace of change but encourages that it is better to take action to create change. The chorus then kicks into gear, with the words "rise above" repeated over and over, calling for a sense of empowerment and control. The lyrics describe the process of rising above the chaos and negativity in the world, gaining a new perspective through inner strength and a vision beyond what is only visible.

pinoeshair I can help you fix it. I have the score so I will help you with the lyrics. If it’s in ALL CAPS it is MISSING... if I put an asterisk next to it, it is a correction if it has <brackets> it should be deleted (within brackets):

WHEN the ones who run the firehouse are the ones who start the fire
AND the lawless make the laws and ev’ry preacher is a liar
And the ones that damn the innocent, well, they own the nightly news and front page

An old man said to me, ”It’s not who, but what you know; and knowledge isn’t wisdom without control. <and that there’s> BETTER still to be the changes that you wanna see. <But> They come slow, I know”

And you said rise above; open your eyes up.
And you said rise above, BUT I can’t, I can’t

For every heart that bleeds will color your world red, and the sorrow in the night will be the blue you cannot shed.
But your strength will be a vision beyond visibility, AND <That> the gift you have within <you> will give you new eyes to see.
AND <that> you can rise above, swing through the skies above.
And you shall rise above yourself.
Know that I’ll be watching. Know that I’ll be waiting.
Standing on the precipice*, I *can soar away from this.
And you can rise above (*Free* your soul.)
Open your eyes up. (Rise above yourself and take control.)
And you can rise above yourself. (You need to love, to release yourself and rise above it all.)
And you can rise above. (I will <have> be there <here>.)
Open your eyes up. (You were never alone.)
And you can rise above (inside your dreams)
yourself (I’ve been watching and waiting for you.)
And you can rise above, open your eyes to love. (up.)
And you can rise above yourself.
And every heart that bleeds will color your world red, and the sorrow in the night will be the blue you cannot shed.
And your strength will be a vision beyond visibility, and the gift you have before you will give you new eyes to see.

Or better yet, here is the uninterrupted lyrics (S1 & S2 sing at the same time):

When the ones who run the firehouse are the ones who start the fire.
And the lawless make the laws and ev’ry preacher is a liar.
And the ones that damn the innocent, *
well, they own the nightly news and front page.

An old man said to me, ”It’s not who, but what you know; and knowledge isn’t wisdom without control. Better still to be the changes that you wanna see. They come slow, I know.”

And you said rise above; open your eyes up.
And you said rise above, but I can’t, I can’t.

For every heart that bleeds will color your world red, and the sorrow in the night will be the blue you cannot shed.
But your strength will be a vision beyond visibility, and the gift you have within will give you new eyes to see.
And you can rise above, swing through the skies above.
And you shall rise above yourself.
Know that I’ll be watching. Know that I’ll be waiting.
Standing on the precipice, I can soar away from this.
And you can rise above (Free your soul.)
Open your eyes up. (Rise above yourself and take control.)
And you can rise above yourself. (You need to love, to release yourself and rise above it all.)
And you can rise above. (I will be there.)
Open your eyes up. (You were never alone.)
And you can rise above (inside your dreams)
yourself (I’ve been watching and waiting for you.)
S1: And you can rise above, open your eyes to love.
(S2: And you can rise above, open your eyes up.)
And you can rise above yourself.
And every heart that bleeds will color your world red, and the sorrow in the night will be the blue you cannot shed.
And your strength will be a vision beyond visibility, and the gift you have before you will give you new eyes to see.

Enjoy!

This song gives me chills now, that musical was absolutely amazing

@marvelfan2.059

This song always brings tears to me.
I`m glad to be a Spiderman fan.

@KingGhidorah5464

i think this is the best song in the musical, next to A Freak Like Me. it's the song of virtually every superhero who sees the need to take justice into their own hands.

@TheCrazyCoasterKid

I love this part more. It is more Broadway, less rock. I love hearing Peter solo, arachne singing, and then the whole ensemble. It just blows me away.

@DannyBeckerFilms

This song is one of the few saving graces of this musical.

@zukelotos8143

Danny's Domain I thought it was a pretty good musical they could’ve changed a couple of things

@lydias8303

@@zukelotos8143 I thought it was great too, but yeah, they could have done a few things better

@crazierthanyouaddams

This song is amazing! Okay, if the vocals and the instrumental music aren't enough to make it perfect, look at the lyrics, they're actually pretty deep. Plus, Spiderman? Best super hero ever!

@percussionko
