Finally
T. G. Sheppard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wish my mind wouldn't argue with my heart, it splits the
Day apart, into time well spent and time just thrown away,
I wish my heart would please make up my mind, I'm wasting so
Much time, gotta catch a glimpse of how it's gonna be.

When finally, I look inside your eyes and see,
Reflections of yourself in me, the way you always said it
Would be, when finally, I'm loving you like you love me, it
Happened oh so easily, I looked at you and it came to me,
Finally.

This Ferris wheel just keeps on spinning round, playing mind
Games with the ground, can we stop this time, or must we go
Again, I see you standing waiting just outside, come and
Get me off this ride, wanna lose myself in being here with you.

When finally, I look inside your eyes and see,
Reflections of yourself in me, the way you always
Said it would be, when finally, I'm loving you like you

Love me, it happened oh so easily, I looked at you and it
Came to me, finally

Overall Meaning

The song "Finally" by T. G. Sheppard is a love ballad that expresses the yearning of a person to finally be with someone they love. The lyrics reflect a sense of uncertainty and indecisiveness that the singer is experiencing in their mind and heart. They wish that their mind and heart could come together and make a decision about their relationship instead of splitting the day apart. They are wasting so much time and want to catch a glimpse of how it is going to be.

The chorus repeats the word "finally," expressing the relief and joy that comes when they are able to finally connect with their loved one. For the singer, the moment when they see the reflections of their loved one in their own eyes and are able to love them as much as they are loved is a moment of ease and clarity. The Ferris wheel imagery symbolizes the ups and downs of emotions that the singer is going through. They want to get off the ride and be with their loved one without any more confusion and uncertainty.

One of the best songs ever!!! In 1983 we were backstage with TG at Billy Bobs and she looked at TG and motioned toward me and said, TG, he's nothing but a dreamer!! TG very kindly said, as long as he's dreamin you don't have anything to worry about. He came out on stage and when he started this song he said I'm dedicating this song to the dreamer in the audience, Jim. Then he did it for years whenever I seen him. That's family....

This song almost brings tears to my eyes. The chords in the intro and the verses are kinda depressing, and the solo is kinda depressing AW

Back when country music had its own sound and beat

I remember this song.
My late brother Sean had this cassette.
I fell in love with the 1st
time I heard it.
Such a beautiful song.
I'll sing this song all the time.

This was the kind of soft ballads that you heard on radio in the 1980s. The piano starting off this recording is sad and soulful. The lyrics make you think and puts you in a reflective mood. Beautiful instrumentation.

I used to sing this song to my ex-husband. We are meant for each other. But we are divorced now. I had a nervous breakdown and didn't know what I was doing. The next thing I knew, I was divorcing him. I was not myself and he didn't understand what was happening to me. I still miss him to this day. I will always love him. When we see each other now, you can still see the love we have for each other in our eyes. Our kids even see it between us. He is the greatest love of my life and will always have my heart. At least I have good memories.

I remember when this single was released in the Summer of 1982 - the best summer ever! T.G. Sheppard is a country music legend! "Finally" & "War Is Hell (On The Homefront Too)" are amongst T.G.'s best! The latter song also was released in '82. Bravo, T.G. Sheppard!

This song did not get the recognition that it deserved. It truly is a great song. Finally T. G., oh yea!

I heard this decades ago. Then I was happy when I finally found it on YouTube. Such a beautiful song.
