Jupiter Liar
T. Rex Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Who ever said that you could dance now baby
Who ever said he was a liar
Who ever said that you could dance now baby
Who ever said he was a liar
Would you lie to me, oh yeah, oh yeah

Who ever said that you could move now baby
Who ever said he was a liar
Who ever said that you could move now baby
Who ever said he was a liar
Would you lie to me, oh yeah, oh yeah

You are my love
You are my baby

You are my love
You are my girl

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to T. Rex’s song ‘Jupiter Liar’ are open to interpretation, but it’s possible that they may refer to a deceptive person who falsely claims to have a talent or skill (in this case, dancing or moving). The repeated line “Who ever said he was a liar” may suggest that the singer is challenging this person’s credibility and questioning whether they’re telling the truth about their abilities. However, there’s also a sense of seduction and flirtation in the lyrics, with the singer addressing their lover and expressing affection (“You are my love, you are my baby, you are my girl”).

The use of the word “Jupiter” in the song’s title could be significant, as Jupiter was the ancient Roman god of sky and thunder, known for his power and authority. This could suggest that the singer sees themselves or their lover as similarly powerful or influential, able to challenge the lies of lesser mortals. Overall, the lyrics to ‘Jupiter Liar’ are enigmatic and impressionistic, creating a dreamlike, psychedelic atmosphere that evokes the 1970s era in which the song was created.

Fantastic track. How do people not see the genius of this man?

@Imsuchaliar

I never agree with people saying that "Dandy in the Underworld" was a return to form. How about this a year prior ? Great album, fantastic song. Should have been a hit single.

@strictlynorton
