Soul Of My Suit
T. Rex Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well you damaged the soul of my suit
You pulled my love out by the roots
But I'm not such a bad boy - oh no

You ravished the runes of my tunes
You put on the gloves of my loves
But you're not such a bad girl - oh no
Rock and rolled it even strolled it, baby
Rock and rolled it, yeah
Rock and rolled it even strolled it, baby
Rock and rolled it, yeah

I love you, yeah

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to T. Rex's song The Soul Of My Suit are somewhat cryptic but convey a sense of vulnerability and resilience. The first two lines, "Well you damaged the soul of my suit, You pulled my love out by the roots," suggest that someone has hurt the singer deeply, causing them to feel exposed and vulnerable. However, the next lines, "But I'm not such a bad boy - oh no," speak to the singer's resilience and suggest that they are not completely broken by the hurt they have experienced.

The next two lines, "You ravished the runes of my tunes, You put on the gloves of my loves," further emphasize the sense of violation that the singer feels, as though their personal creativity and romantic experiences have been stolen or corrupted. However, the line "But you're not such a bad girl - oh no," seems to suggest that the person who hurt the singer is not entirely at fault and that there might be some understanding or forgiveness there.

Overall, the song seems to be about the complexities of love and the ability to both hurt and heal one another. It speaks to the idea that even when someone causes us pain, there might still be some underlying love or understanding there that allows us to move past the hurt.

@Starman-zn2hw

This is a woefully undervalued song in his catalogue. Never has got the love it deserved.

Why is everyone saying he died in Golders Green? I went to the memorial while staying in a Golders Green hotel. It's clear across town. Took more than an hour to get there on mass transit. Am I tripping?
