aftermath
TEA PARTY Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Desperate to take
Lost in its wake
Time slips away too soon

Pleasures of fear
Drawing us near
Where could we go from here
[Chorus:]
Waste what we want
We beg and we're brought
And nothing is wrong with us

Life in these veins
Godless and stained
Glimpses of hope exist

Slanted advance
Threatened by chance
Time slips away too soon

[Chorus]
Waste what we want

We beg and we're brought
And nothing is wrong with us

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Aftermath" by Tea Party touch on themes of desperation, loss, time, fear, and hope. The first verse suggests a sense of urgency as time slips away too soon, leaving the singer feeling lost and desperate to take control. The second verse describes an attraction to pleasures of fear that draw the singer closer, but the question remains: where can they go from here? The chorus repeats the phrase "waste what we want", conveying a sense of recklessness and resignation to fate. Despite this, the singer is still able to catch glimpses of hope that exist among the godless and stained life in their veins.

The third verse introduces the idea of a "slanted advance" threatened by chance, suggesting that even the most well-planned efforts can be derailed by unexpected events. Again, time is described as slipping away too soon. The chorus is repeated once again, emphasizing the idea that the desire to waste what we want is persistent and all-encompassing, and that there is nothing wrong with this mindset.

Overall, the lyrics of "Aftermath" paint a picture of a world in chaos, where time is fleeting and hope is hard to find. The sense of desperation and loss is palpable, as is the almost nihilistic resignation to a fate that may or may not be under our control.

"The question of what happens to the soul in the face of technology," the theme of this album as described by Jeff Martin - one of the masterpiece of the 1990's, no question.

@Guy Basil wow, do youremember in which interview he tells more about this experience recording Transmission?

Guy Basil

seems like a spiritual awakening / dark night of the soul kinda moment, he said in an interview that recording this album nearly killed him.
I guess that was the question he was asking himself though.

Uhbliviun

Another one of the few albums that made a huge impact on my self. This was the piece that closed the last of all the countless doors that every song had opened in me.

Mirror Domains

So different than the other final songs on their albums but awesome way to close out Transmission!

S. Rathgeber

Very different to the rest of the Album but as others here say a good ending for it.
