MOB
THURSDAY'S YOUTH Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of THURSDAY'S YOUTH's song "Mob" address the issue of conformity and the dangers of blindly following the crowd. The lyrics illustrate how people are swayed by their emotions and allow their lives to be full of directionless turmoil. The line "大した人間でもないのにね" (dai shita ningen demo nai no ni ne) which can be translated to "even though we are not great human beings" highlights how people who are not significant tend to seek validation from others by conforming to societal norms. The lyrics express that people who feel like they are a part of the mob and those who watch from the outside are guilty of the same thing. The song criticises the fact that people are quick to judge and hurt others for revealing their true selves, and the line "力を見せれば他人を傷つける" (chikara wo misereba tanin wo kizutsukeru) which can be translated to "if you show your strength, you will hurt others," emphasises this point.

The chorus of the song asks the listener what they would do in such a scenario where society is pressurising them to conform. The lines "君ならどうする?潰される前に前ならえ" (kimi nara dou suru? tsubusareru mae ni mae narae) which can be translated to "what will you do? Stand up before you get crushed," highlights the fact that society can be oppressive, but there is always a way out if we choose to be brave and stand up for what we believe in. The lines "自分の愚かさを知りながら笑う 潰される前に前ならえ 君ならどうする?恥をかく前に前ならえ" (jibun no orokasa wo shirinagara warau tsubusareru mae ni mae narae kimi nara dou suru? Haji wo kaku mae ni mae narae) which can be translated to "laughing while knowing your own foolishness, stand up before you get crushed, what will you do? Stand up before you get embarrassed," emphasise the importance of being authentic and staying true to oneself.

Overall, "Mob" is a powerful message on the importance of being true to oneself and not following the crowd blindly. The lyrics caution people against getting caught up in societal norms and beliefs that are detrimental to their growth and development, urging them to stand up before it's too late.
