The Blonde
TV Girl Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Who's gonna pay attention
To the redheads of the world
Who's gonna call them up at night
When they're naked and alone

Who's gonna kiss the brown haired girls
Who's gonna wipe away their tears
And what about the black haired girls
Who's gonna whisper filthy things into their ears

Cause anyone who ever had a brain
Wouldn't stand out in the rain
Or keep it up for very long
Just to prove somebody wrong

And anyone who ever had a heart
Or sang a lonesome song
Would sell their little souls
Just to make it with the blonde

It's just unearned admiration
Are you sick of all the stares
You don't need to hide yourself away
You only need to dye your hair

But it won't do you any good
Cause pretty soon your roots will be showing
And anytime you try to leave the room

They'll ask you just where the hell
Do you think you're going

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of TV Girl's "The Blonde" are a commentary on society's fixation with a certain type of physical appearance, namely blonde-haired women. The song questions why society puts such emphasis on this type of look, leaving other types of women feeling ignored and undervalued. The first verse asserts that redheads, brown-haired girls, and black-haired girls are overlooked and forgotten, while blondes receive all the attention. The lyrics imply that blondes have become so highly sought after that other women are left to feel unimportant and unattractive.

The chorus of the song is a statement on how people will go to great lengths to attain the ideal of blonde hair, even if it means sacrificing their true selves. The lines "Anyone who ever had a heart / Or sang a lonesome song / Would sell their little souls / Just to make it with the blonde" suggest that people are willing to compromise their values and personality in order to fit in with societal expectations. The final verse of the song suggests that the pursuit of the "blonde ideal" is ultimately futile, as even those who attain it will never be truly fulfilled, as they will always be expected to maintain the appearance.

Overall, "The Blonde" is a poignant commentary on society's superficial ideals and the negative impact they can have on those who do not fit into those standards.

@Melinaticasflores

never thought I was going to relate to this song till now.

my crush types is a blonde girl, white, skinny, blue/green eyes
and I'm a, mix, black/brown hair, medium skinny, brown/black eyes

I cried knowing he won't like me ever and only will see me as a friend though he showed off signs he liked me (I thought) started to lay his head on my shoulder, play with his hair, talk, fool around
I asked him what did he see in her? he said
she treats me right.
(Spolier she's the school th8t)
but don't I treat him right? I can change my behavior but
at the end of the day,
im not Blonde
im not skinny
im not white
I don't have blue/green eyes

I wonder ever if a guy would like me for who I am and not a lot of my looks though I try looking pretty with makeup

TV Girl songs are so beautiful, calming, emotional, and sad, such a range of feelings come from these song

@mudalad1215

the melody at the start is hella hypnotic and nice

@DVIPORT

Honestly

@Jessica_knows_nothing

This song is so relatable because to be perfect you need to be a skinny tall blue eyed blonde who has a horrible attitude. My blonde friend always gets chosen over me. She always gets what she wants. “You only need to dye your hair. But it won’t do any good cause pretty soon your roots will be shown.” It’s the best line in history. You just need to dye your hair to get people to notice you.

@xiionnax

Damn actually???? Im a tall blue eyed blonde and my bff thats a brunette small-ish with green eyes is more popular for me

@peskwawa
