Happy Days
TV Themes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sunday, Monday, happy days
Tuesday, Wednesday, happy days
Thursday, Friday, happy days
The weekend comes
My cycle hums
Ready to race to you
These days are all
Happy and free (those happy days)
These days are all
Share them with me (oh baby)
Goodbye grey sky, hello blue
There's nothing can hold me when I hold you
Feels so right, it can't be wrong
Rockin' and rollin' all week long
Sunday, Monday, happy days
Tuesday, Wednesday, happy days
Thursday, Friday, happy days
Saturday, what a day
Groovin' all week with you
These days are all
Share them with me (those happy days)
These days are all
Happy and free (oh baby)

These happy days are your's and mine
These happy days are your's and mine, happy days

Overall Meaning

The song "Happy Days" is the theme song of the popular American sitcom of the same name. The lyrics detail the joys of youth and the happiness that comes from spending time with loved ones. The song opens with the singer expressing his excitement for the week ahead, as he lists off the days of the week in order. He then describes the freeing feeling of the weekend, as he sets out on his bicycle toward his loved one. The song emphasizes the exuberance of youth and the carefree nature of the era it depicts.

The lyrics also express a sense of optimism and joy in life, conveyed through imagery of blue skies and the happiness that comes from spending time with someone special. The upbeat rhythm and simple melody further enhance the happy-go-lucky nature of the song. The lyrics suggest that the time period the show depicts was a simpler, more wholesome time in American culture, and the song acts as a tribute to that era.

THis is a NEW reconstruction of the opening song of third and following seasons of "happy days"
, full of FOUR verses, . I used the first verse released in the 45 rpm record, while the second , the third verse only found in the score ( background music ) of the first episodes of season one
( the middle assolo is a mix between the assolo in season-theme from the third to the tenth , and the solo sax appeared in 11th season.) .The original song was first recorded in 1974 by Jim Haas with a group of other session singers for the first two seasons (Jimmy Haas on lead vocals, Ron Hicklin of the Ron Hicklin Singers, Stan Farber, Jerry Whitman, and Gary Garrett on backing vocals, and studio musicians. the "original cast")These versions of the song were used ONLY for the ending credits of Seasons 1 and 2, ( because an updated version of "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and His Comets was used as the opening theme). The song was re-recorded in 1975 by Jim with different lyrics for both the opening and closing credits for Seasons 3 through 10 ....Pratt & McClain released the song - complete of all verses - as a single in 1976 from their album Pratt & McClain Featuring Happy Days. The complete original song was never released by the original cast.
this is why I made this reconstruction.
at the end there is a small surprise, the ending choir with a different words: "these are such happy days" , wich can be heard at the end of the first episodes in season
