They met in the early 1990s. Takayama, already well-established as a voice actress, was in the indie band RE-X and met Nagano through a friend. Takayama released a solo album in 1992, Endless Communication which Nagano contributed to. They formed a group together Es Connexion and released in an album. In 1995 they formed TWO-MIX.
They have been featured in anime such as Gundam Wing and Detective Conan (in which the title character, Conan Edogawa, is voiced by Takayama. They also made a guest appearance in one of the episode in which they were kidnapped and saved by Conan and his friends).
In 2005, Takayama and Nagano were joined by Joe Rinoie as an additional singer and composer, changing the group's name to || MIX⊿DELTA for a limited time. Delta is the mathematical symbol signifying a number of 3 and change.
In 2008, Shiina started his solo music project ShiinaTactix(S.T.M.) featuring different female vocalist such as Sanae Kobayashi, Yoko Hikasa and Mutsumi Tamura. S.T.M. stands for ShiinaTactix-Music and Strike Two-Mix.

The lyrics of TWO-MIX's song Silent Cruising is a melancholic reflection on the fleeting nature of time and the inevitability of change. The first verse opens with the lines "Kotoba mo kawasazu tada unazukeba, Minareta keshiki ga toozakaru" which roughly translates to "Without even exchanging words, just nodding, the familiar scenery grows distant." The singer seems to be contemplating how even the things or people we take for granted can quickly become inaccessible or even forgotten, as we pass through the ever-changing landscape of life. He then asks, "Itsu kara konna ni utsuro na sekai, Wakeau futari ni kawatta no?" which translates to "Since when has the world become so transient? What has changed between us?" The second verse echoes the first verse with the same theme of change and uncertainty, where the singer contemplates getting on the highway to speed up the process of moving on, but also questions why things have turned out the way they have.
The chorus then expresses a desire to move forward and overcome the pain and sadness of the past. The lines "Atsuku atsuku dokomademo, Toki[genzai] o koete yukitai kara" which means "I want to go beyond time, passionately and ambitiously, to a far-off place" reflects this desire for change and transformation. The verse also conveys a sense of loneliness and isolation, as "Dare mo dare mo todokanai, Kanashimi sae oitsukenai" translates to "No one, no one can reach the sadness, and neither can I." Despite this, the singer seems determined to move on and find a resolution. The bridge of the song presents a moment of stillness as "Fukai tameiki de shiito[sheet]ni shizumu, Anata ga chikakute tooku naru" means "I sink silently into the sheets with a deep sigh, as you become closer and farther away." The gentle melody and minimalistic instrumentation evoke a sense of bittersweet nostalgia and longing.
