Joanna
T Hatch Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I can't forget the one they call Joanna
We owned the summer, hand in hand Joanna
And now she's always just a tear away
Goodbye you, you long lost summer
Leaving me behind you
Revealing things for lovers that may find you
I still hang on to every word that day, you passed my way
You made the man a child again, so sweetly
He breathed your smile
Lived in your eyes completely
And on his heart there's still a trace of you
I love you but nothing in this world could make you mine
Yet still in time
Joanna
Joanna, you may remember me and change your mind
I love you but nothing in this world could make you mine
Yet still in time
Joanna
Joanna, you may remember me and change your mind
The song "Joanna" by T Hatch is a nostalgic and emotional reflection on a past summer romance with a woman named Joanna. The first two lines of the song express how unforgettable Joanna is to the songwriter and how they spent the summer together, hand in hand. However, the distance between them now is marked by tears, and the memory of that summer seems distant to the songwriter. They are left behind, revealing things for lovers who may come along.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the deep impression that Joanna made on the songwriter. She made them feel like a child and completely mesmerized them with her smile and eyes. Even though the songwriter was unable to have a future with her, Joanna has left a trace on their heart that remains to this day. The final lines of the song express the hope that Joanna may one day remember the songwriter and change her mind.
Overall, "Joanna" is a poignant and melancholic look back on a lost summer romance that had a profound impact on the songwriter's life. Despite the realization that the relationship could never have a future, the songwriter is left with a lasting memory of the joy and wonder that Joanna brought into their life.

Last summer I was working as a waitress at a coffee shop and there was an old British couple that would come over every day for their morning coffee until their vacations would end. Every time they would sing "Joanna" to me as soon as they saw me and I would smile. They really made my day!!

That's lovely ... and what a song! Been following Scott since 1981 when read about him in NME. He would have hated this in recent years before his passing but it's perfect and moves me very time.
