Excursion
Tacere Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Dark is the colour that weaves the midnight sky
It oppresses in it's beauty it seduces (the) chaste of life

Light is the colour to dress the lady of the snow
It's a white delight that easily is lost within the storm
How could ever these two be joined together at all:
Light and dark, the filth, the grace, the unborn grey is the cost
Fly through the starlight over all the frozen sky
All virtues and the lust, placed inside this downcast grace
Into the mists of dusk, through the shades of grey we fly
Bring me back my will to live, never let me go

Fly through the starlight over all the frozen sky
All virtues and the lust, placed inside this downcast grace
Into the mists of dusk, through the shades of grey we fly
Bring me back my will to live, never let me go

Fly through the starlight,
Over frozen sky

Overall Meaning

"Excursion" by Tacere is a poetic exploration of contrasts, the coexistence of light and dark, and the inherent tension between beauty and oppression. The opening lines describe the midnight sky as dark and beautiful, but also oppressive and seductive. The darkness here represents the unknown, the things that scare us, the things we want to avoid, but at the same time, there's a certain beauty to it that can be compelling. The contrast is then made to the color white, which is associated with light, purity, and innocence, but also with the precariousness of that very purity. The whiteness of snow can easily become lost in a storm, and this speaks to the fragility of innocence, and how easily it can be swept away.

The lyrics then go on to explore the union of light and dark, and the grey space that exists in between. The singer questions how these two contrasting colors can exist together, and suggests that their coexistence comes at a cost. This cost is the vulnerability of the space in between, which he calls "the unborn grey." The song then takes on a more hopeful tone, with the singer asking to fly through the starlight, to journey into the unknown mists of dusk and the shades of grey, to find his will to live and never let go. The song seems to imply that by embracing the grey space, by facing our fears and embracing the unknown, we can find hope and vitality.

Overall, "Excursion" is a complex and evocative exploration of contrasts and the inherent tension between them. It speaks to the human desire to find meaning in uncertainty and beauty in the oppressive darkness.
