For Me
Tadpole Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I do not want to
I do not need to
I do not have to

What I did I did for
What I did I did for
What I did I did for me
I feel so lonely
Cause no one loves me
I feel so lonely
Full of self-pity
No one cares for me
I feel so ugly

(What I did I did for...)

Make a cut in yourself
A little opening for the pain to get in

And if you could be true
And if you loved me too
Then I would not have to
No love should come for free
What I do I do for
No love should come for...

(What I did I did for me...)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Tadpole's song "For Me" reveal a sense of loneliness, despair, and self-destructive tendencies. The singer appears to be going through a difficult time, feeling unloved and ugly, and engaging in self-harm to cope with their pain. The repetition of "I do not want to...I do not need to...I do not have to" suggests a battle within the singer's mind, as they resist giving into their impulses. The refrain "What I did I did for me" seems to indicate a desire for control and agency in their life, perhaps as an attempt to counteract feelings of powerlessness and emotional turmoil.

The second verse introduces the idea that love should not come for free, implying perhaps that the singer feels that they need to earn love, or that love is something that they are lacking in their life. The line "Make a cut in yourself, a little opening for the pain to get in" is a stark and disturbing image, suggesting that the singer may be engaging in self-harm or self-injury to cope with their emotional pain. The final lines create a circular structure, repeating the refrain "What I did I did for me," hinting at the cyclical nature of the singer's struggle to maintain control over their life.

Overall, Tadpole's "For Me" is a haunting portrayal of an individual in the grips of inner turmoil, grappling with feelings of loneliness, worthlessness, and self-destruction. The song delivers a powerful commentary on the importance of agency, control, and love in life, as well as the struggles that can arise when those things are not present.

@Muscle Man The infinity engine games more 'proper' Dnd than Baldur's gate 3? Seems clear your perspective is of a fan of Baldur's gate, not a tabletop player.

The spells don't even work correctly in Baldur's gate 1/2. Their damage numbers are off, all of the cool abilities are nerfed (you can't transform into a dragon! Only a stupid troll.) or just don't exist in the game. They don't even have Cleric spells above level 7! Classes are completely inaccurate and broken as well. It's a terrible conversion of Dnd.

I already said Neverwinter Nights was a good conversion. Comparable to Baldur's gate 3. The role playing in Neverwinter nights though isn't very good, at least not in the original campaign.

You think an AAA game company would pay people to basically argue 'my dad would beat up your dad'?

I have plenty of problems with Baldur's gate 3 but not because their conversion of Dnd is inaccurate. I actually don't even like the version they're adapting.

@Muscle Man So which studios were making proper Dnd games before Owlcat?

None of the most commonly called 'classics' are as authentic to Dungeons and Dragons as Baldur's gate 3 is. Not the infinity engine games including the other baldur's gates, not the gold box games. Not SSI's Eye of the Beholder, not Dark sun, not dreamforge's Dnd licensed games like Ravenloft.

All of the games listed are less accurate mechanical adaptions of DND and most of them aren't even role playing games, they are just mechanical adaptions of Dnd.

BG3's main competition in tabletop adaptions are Neverwinter Nights, the Temple of elemental evil and now Pathfinder and Solasta crown of the magister.

All of them are weaker role playing experiences than BG3 though, instead focusing on the mechanics of Dungeons and dragons. Not the role playing.
