December 2 Chapter VII
Taken By Cars Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A sinking call
An out of sight hello
From a thousand wailing walls
It's like you
It's like you never left at all

I throw your word around like child's play
Listen to what I say
I throw your words around like child's play
New blues for a new day

And when I'm gone
I want you to wonder
And when I stop
I want you to play

And let the best of you just see right through me
Cause I can't see

But I wasn't where you were
No I'm never where you are
I'm in my looking glass view

Always almost too close to you
I'm always almost too close to you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Taken By Cars's song December 2 Chapter VII seem to be about the aftermath of a failed relationship. The opening lines "A sinking call, An out of sight hello" suggest a feeling of disconnection and emotional distance from the person the singer is addressing. The references to "thousand wailing walls" suggest that this feeling of disconnection is not unique to them and that many people have experienced the same thing.

The lines "It's like you, It's like you never left at all" suggest that despite the physical separation from this person, they still have a strong emotional presence in the singer's life. The repetition of the phrase "I throw your words around like child's play" suggests a feeling of frustration and confusion, as if the singer is struggling to make sense of what has happened.

The lines "But I wasn't where you were, No I'm never where you are" suggest that the singer and the person they are addressing are fundamentally different and may have different priorities and goals in life. However, the final lines "I'm always almost too close to you" suggest that despite this distance, there is still a sense of longing and attachment between them.

Overall, the song seems to be exploring the complex emotions that arise after a relationship has ended, and the difficulty of moving on from someone who still holds a powerful emotional sway over us.

Today is December 2, 2020

It's that time of the year again and things are quite different now since the first time I heard this song. Yet, I still cannot help to party a little bit every time I remember to play this song and also celebrate it annually. Maybe it's the small things that count. Happy December 2!!

I feel obliged to watch this again since it’s the 2nd of December.... I’m still ecstatic and melancholic at the same time everytime I listen to this song... the video is really artistically done, weird in some sense.. (at wala pang RC Cola commercial back then). In my opinion i got “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” feels... anyway let’s continue to appreciate one of the great but underrated songs from the past... 🤙😜👍 Enjoy your 2nd of December!

I was working in Philippines Islands back in the time when this song was released. I always have had this feeling like every time you travel you get to know a new song who becomes the soundtrack of this trip. Well this one was it. Its definitely a sad song but very well done! Its quite sad theyve changed their style now (TBC)
