Body
Talisman Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Little salamander, where did you go?
The edge of the yard
I found you, you know
All brown and hard

I can't get your body out of my mind
I can't get your body
I can't get your body out of my mind
I can't get your body

She goes smooth through my body
Through my body, she goes smooth
She goes smooth through my body
Through my body, she goes smooth

Little killer froggy, where did you hop?
Under the entertainment center
Realized you just couldn't stop
The worms found a hole in your booty they could enter

And I can't get your body out of my mind
I can't get your body
I can't get your body out of my mind
I can't get your body

You go smooth through my body
Through my body, you go smooth
You go smooth through my body
Through my body, you go smooth

Hey little lizard, where did you slink?
Left your cage door open
Under the basement sink
The drippin' water made your moldy body eyes open

And I can't get your body out of my mind
I can't get your body
I can't get your body out of my mind
I can't get your body
Can't get your body out of my mind
I can't get your body
Can't get your body out of my mind
I can't get your body

Can't get your body out of my mind
I can't get your body

Can't get your body out of my mind
I can't get your body

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Talisman's song "Body" are a strange yet intriguing combination of nostalgia, obsession, and melancholy. In each verse, the singer looks back on a particular dead animal- a salamander, a frog, and a lizard- and describes the circumstances in which they were found, often with a mixture of pathos and humor. The repeated refrain of "I can't get your body out of my mind" conveys a sense of fixation, a haunting presence of these deceased creatures that the singer can't escape. The images of decay and decomposition are contrasted with the smoothness that the animals seem to emanate, as if their life force continues to reverberate even in death.

On some level, the song seems to be exploring how the memories of the dead can linger and affect us, even if they are only animals. The lyrics suggest a certain intimacy and familiarity with the animals, and the way they are described almost as characters in themselves- the "little killer froggy" who hops under the entertainment center, the "left your cage door open" lizard under the basement sink- adds to the sense of their continued presence.
