Friction with the band's label, EMI, resulted in legal action and countersuing. Webb departed, and the band switched to Polydor for their final studio album, 1991's Laughing Stock, but split soon afterwards. Singer Mark Hollis released one solo album in 1998 before retiring from the music industry; he died in 2019. The band's founding bass player and drummer, Paul Webb and Lee Harris, played in several bands together; long-term collaborator Tim Friese-Greene continued in the business as a musician and producer.

Talk Talk Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Easter's heir uncrowns
Another destiny lies leeched
Upon the ground
Everybody needs someone to live by
Everybody will need someone
Everybody will need someone to live by
A gilded wreath on reason
The flower crushed conceives
A child of fragrance so much clearer
In legacy
Everybody needs someone to live by
Everybody will need someone
Everybody will need someone to live by
Rage on omnipotent
The song "Eden" by Talk Talk describes the end of a paradise-like state, and the beginning of an uncertain future. The lyrics imply that the joys of summer were once plentiful, but now they are drained, much like a leech sucks the blood from its host. The mention of Easter, a time of renewal and rebirth, is ironic given the fallen state of this world. The term "uncrowns" suggests that the traditions and beliefs of the past are no longer held in the same esteem.
However, the lyrics also suggest that hope remains through connection with others. The refrain "Everybody needs someone to live by" implies that even though this world is dark and uncertain, there is solace in companionship. The final line, "Rage on omnipotent," reinforces this idea, as if to say that though one's rage may seem futile in the grand scheme of things, it is still an important outlet for frustration and a means of connecting with others who may share one's discontent.
Overall, "Eden" is a meditation on the transience of earthly pleasures and the importance of human relationships in the face of adversity.
