Talk Talk
Talk Talk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey hey hey
Well, did I tell you before when I was up?
Anxiety was bringing me down
I'm tired of listening to you talking in rhymes
Twisting around to make me think you're straight down the line

All you do to me is talk, talk
Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk
Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk

If every sign that I see is complete
Then I'm a fool in your game
And all you want to do is tell me your lies
Won't you show the other side, you're just wasting my time

All you do to me is talk, talk
Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk
Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk

When every choice that I make is yours
Keep telling me what's right and what's wrong
Don't you ever stop to think about me
I'm not that blind to see that you've been cheating on me
You're laughing at me when I'm up
I see you when you're crying for me when I'm down
I see you when you're laughing at me when I'm up
I see you when you're crying for me

All you do to me is talk, talk
Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk
Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk
Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk
Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk
Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk
Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk

Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Talk Talk's song "Talk Talk" appear to be about a strained relationship in which one person constantly talks, talks, talks without taking the time to listen or consider the other person's feelings. The opening lines "Anxiety was bringing me down / I'm tired of listening to you talking in rhymes / Twisting around to make me think you're straight down the line" suggest that the singer is getting fed up with the other person's constant chatter and attempts to manipulate the situation. They express frustration with the fact that all the other person does is talk and that they never take any action.

The chorus reinforces this theme, with the repetition of the phrase "all you do to me is talk, talk." The singer seems to be implying that the other person's words are meaningless and that they are not interested in hearing them anymore. The second verse adds a layer of complexity to the situation, with the singer questioning whether they are being foolish for believing the other person's lies. The line "Don't you ever stop to think about me" highlights the singer's sense of neglect and frustration with the other person's lack of consideration.

Overall, the lyrics to "Talk Talk" paint a picture of a one-sided relationship in which one person dominates the conversation and the other feels unheard and unimportant.

I saw this on MTV when I was just a girl of 12. I couldn't get the song out of my head. I'm 53 now and still love them. They did some truly remarkable music. I was heartbroken when we lost Mark Hollis. That unique voice, his mischievous twinkle, lol. He is missed.

This amazing singer is Mark Hollis. Born in the UK in 1955, he died in 2019, only 64 years old. What a pity this talent is no more among us. I became a huge fan of Talk-Talk in 1982. Great melodies compounded by super-cool beat was mesmerizing. I will forever cherish Mark's beautiful smile and the music he created. This band was not underrated by me.
