Especially considering the price and power hike... I assumed a Tremec would've made it's way in there. The MT82 had issues way back when the 5.0 was producing 412hp.

Thanks guys, Thomas I love your feedback on driving dynamics, I care too much about a car's handling and I do track days. I always had the same issue with the Mustang and sad to see it's still there... Many other reviewers said steering is sharper and more precise, but no-one mentioned anything about feedback and feel.. Love your stuff man, keep it up

Totally agree. Was looking for comments specifically about the new mustang's steering, which most others praise it being sharper it's unfortunate to hear it's worse in feedback and weighting. Thank you Thomas for pointing that out and makes me want to treasure the steering feedback on my 2015 manual mustang even more 😂

They might've done all that stiffening to the steering (and effectively making it functionally lighter) in order to accompany and accommodate the drift brake they've added. Makes it a bit easier to manage the steering in the drifts for all the new drifters that are going to come out of this. Maybe not better for the pro's, but much more accessible for newbies.

Same here. I bought a new hi content 2016 GT Premium, Race Red, with 2-tone blk/wht leather and auto, the only one in the Texas/Oklahoma/Louisiana Ford region; had Tommie Vaughan Ford install the Roush supercharger before I took possession. It currently sits on the garage with 6600 miles on the odometer, occasionaly driven on a weekend. Today, a stripped down GT costs as much as I paid, and I like my interior better.

I can feel the steering stiffen up in my s550 with the mode changes. Especially at the 130 and 140 speeds. It was scary in normal. But better than buying a new s550b, drop on some 1” lowering springs, change out all the rubber bushings for polymer and throw on some 305’s in the front and 315’s in the back. It doesn’t become perfect but it’s better and cheaper than buying a new s550b, oh and it’s a mucho better looking car, inside and out.

I was torn between buying a new Mach 1 and a 2024. I had heard the tremec manual was going to be an option in the gt. Wnen I found that wasn’t the case I went with a new Mach 1. I didn’t want to pay markup on a dark horse to get the tremec. Plus first year releases make me nervous. My 2014 and 2019 mustang gts both had the mt82. I never had a reliability issue with either and both cars were boosted and drag raced. It’s a completely different experience driving the Mach 1 tremec. I didn’t know how clunky and crappy feeling the mt 82 was because it was all I knew until now. I’m happy with my Mach 1 choice.

Same displacement, completely different engine design.The old 5.0 was a 1960's style pushrod design, while the Coyote engine is a four cam, 32 valve with sixty years of technology behind it.

Yes. I used a manual rack in my 650hp NA GMC truck. Its 4000lbs like the Stang, but that manual rack gives you something u cannot get with assisted steering systems.
I like my GT500 steering in both modes, but the feedback isnt there.

In Porsche, Mercedes Benz & the M-cars of BMW they have matched the feel of hydraulic steering, especially in the Porsches, so it can be tuned to get close in the American cars; but you only see this in the track cars because the owners demand to have this. Ford made some improvements in the steering but evidently they didn’t go far enough???? Overall Ford made >113 improvements in the S650 over the S550. This will become very obvious once the 7th generation has been around for two years. Keep the faith!!! Mustangs are fun and more fun to be had in the 7th generation car!!!

Thru the 90s and 2000s I always noticed on spec sheets that GM had a wider tire stock for stock. That larger footprint surely helps overall.

I honestly just think that Ford wants the GT to be a comfortable cruiser with a lot of power, while the named cars like the Mach 1/Dark Horse/Shelby's are the actual sports cars. It's felt like this for a while now. They should definitely do a better job at calibration when it comes to weighting up the steering wheel after selecting a sport/race mode though.

I had a ZL1 for 2 years. Very fun car but one HUGE flaw in all Camaro cars: the visibility sucks! I am 6’1” & almost every other car I drive that is performance oriented has a better sitting position and improved visibility!!! Been driving Porsches & Corvettes as daily driver cars for over 4 decades. The Camaro was so good, especially the Z28 but the belt-line of the car needs to be lowered!!! Ford just lowered the belt-line on the S650. Go figure this one out!!! GM should have changed this in 1968 model year. Oh well I appreciate Porsche, BMW, Corvette & Mustang how you get many improvements with each new generation car. Ford made >113 improvements over the 2022 Mach 1 for the S650. So all those enhancements + biden’s inflation brings us the shitty price increases!!! For the record Ford says that they had improvements made to the MT-82 transmission for the S650. Still should have included the Tremec for the GT!!!

I’ve been saying this since 2011 when the 5.0 came back. The base GT should come with the performance package suspension and Brembo brakes (so you don’t kill yourself). It should also come standard with a Tremec transmission and not Chinese junk. So, other than the price being too high and an iffy transmission, the Mustang still hard to beat in many ways. Especially now that it has two less competitors.

Like @ghaithk7167 said the only car to come close in performance at this price range with equal drivers is an M2 Comp, with a good driver in the 1LE you could probably go toe to toe with some M3/M4's. It almost makes me not miss the Z/28, though I think I would go mental if they brought it back with the new Z06 motor 🤤

@Bird-manI can confirm your your response as true. I own a 18' ss 1le with fbo, built engine, full exhaust. It was already an incredible car/experience to drive the car. After the build it's even more of an experience to drive. I don't drive it as a daily or even take it to any type of track. I'm happy any time I drive it and making a few pulls here and there.

It's a brave new look. Liking the more aggressive stance of this car than previous model.
Only gripe is the rear overhang sits quite long.. drive/chassis performance could even improve by chopping off some length with that rear.

The reason why some of the clusters take a while to load is because of the RAM. The normal mode takes the longest because it has the most information. My digital cluster has the same problem.

I always thought my 17 gt steering was far to heavy but I agree without it you wouldn’t be able to tell how far you are pushing it especially when the tail comes out

What's interesting is that Justin from American Muscle drove a different GT during this same event and mentioned more than once how much the steering feel is improved over the S550. Could be down to software tuning between the regular and performance pack or just some kind of bug with pre-release software in this specific Mustang

I love the idea behind the screens but I think they nailed it better with the S550 digital gauge cluster. It was actually made into the dash.
I really really REALLY dislike the whole IPad screen trend that automakers are chasing. You can’t find a new car nowadays that doesn’t have this design, and if it doesn’t, it’s only a matter of time before it does 😒

I like screens, but this is too much. I love my truck I have an analog gauge cluster with a 7” screen in between. I also like when they’re integrated into the dash. This just looks glued to the dash.

I like how The Sketch Monkey puts it: I’m all for the screens and the new tech, but they need to retain the housing for the gauge cluster screens and have the infotainment screen integrated into the dash. Greetings from Jamaica 🇯🇲🙂

Love the blunt truth in this review! The screens. OOF! Even the previous digital screen was rectangular. But at least it was in a bezel and integrated…. These do look VERY after thought.

Also needs springs. It looks like a 4X4, especially the front end, IMO.

I like the new GT, just not enough changes for me to give up my 17 camaro SS. I’m older and don’t have brand loyalty. But in my mind I need to trade up, not buy a facelifted GT that’s slightly better than last years model. I really enjoy my tr6060, I can’t go backwards. I really want to see the review you guys do on the dark horse. That might be the car for me…as long as it isn’t $80k.

@drizztatk think high 50s.....or other option is a 2012 to 2013 302 Boss with low milage , or 2013 to 2014 GT 500 with low milage.
Or 2013 to 2014 GT for 25k with low milage, put 25k into it. Watts link rear end, Tremec if it is a 6 speed, 6 piston brembo brakes, cat back exhaust, koni or ford racing suspension , aluminum or carbon fiber drive line.....would be better car than the 2024 mustang.....YouTube a company called Cortex and American Muscle.

@Michael Tabanao I was doing some spirited driving with a guy in a boss 302. We met at a light and he was praising the boss as the most fun car he’s ever had. Also was doing the same with a gt 350 and Jesus that thing sounded godly.

@drizztatk yep I thought about the 350, however they consume oil 🛢 from all the reviews I have seen. Boss 302 would be my choice, 444hp , track pack with six piston brembos, 7,500 RPM, coyote motor....getting harder to find. I got a 2012 GT with 140k on the odometer not 1 problem with normal maintenance.

Tom, you nailed it with your assessment of the steering. I have had this gripe ever since they went to electronically assisted steering. It’s not every model; but it’s pretty close to it… But personally, every ford i’ve driven past 2013 model year has absolutely no feedback in the steering wheel. Bravo!!

As someone in my mid 50s, I love the video game ified interior. I'd love many many more available Guage styles and layouts. An 80s tech cluster would be nice. Packages and versions are not geared to me very well however. To get the performance options it has to look like a race car. I'd prefer more luxury look, and more chrome, and still be able to get brake upgrades, etc

Im really starting to enjoy your guys reviews alot more lately. I like that you give your honest opinions and dont kiss ass to the manufactures for letting you drive the cars. The only thing I would add is some timed accelerations and braking. The ford design team looks like they bit BMW quite a bit trying to earn some of the young sophisticated buyers. We will see what happens.

I had a 2021 GT, my biggest complaint was steering feel, otherwise it was great. I was really hoping they’d solve that this time around, I’m disappointed they didn’t but my bank account is happy.

I'm telling you it's all the electric steering assist. If you completely delete that system, and get yourself a naardi wheel, you have excellent steering feel. Thats what I did with my s550 and it's absolutely amazing.
