Read Full Bio ↴Turn The Lights Off” describes the path through puberty and adolescence.
The animation for the song depicts an innocent youth discovering himself and his surroundings. Starting at 0:55, his tentacle arm and the mirror scene may be showing that he is uncomfortable or anxious about his body and the changes he is going through.
The start of verse 4 describes the boy’s acceptance for himself, and the introduction of love and relationships. The song’s lyrics show that we still have insecurities, senseless fears or things that we think are embarrassing and actually aren’t.

You'll become one
Freaky creatures
Monster party
Eyes of yellow
Scales and feathers
Tails in tethers
Turn the lights off
Bend the nightmare
You control it
Artful dodger
Easy does it
Shut the closet
Get under the covers
Snakes and lovers
Turn the lights off
Everybody likes to get taken for turns
To see how bright the fire inside of us burns
And everybody wants to get evil tonight
But all good devils masquerade under the light
Here's the pinky
There's the kinky
Everybody complicate it
Man and woman
Baby child
Calm and wild
Turn the lights off
Don't remember (day's gone)
What we look like (night's on)
Younger holding (day's gone)
One another (light's passed)
Paper colors (day's gone)
Dangle streaming (night's on)
Tangle screaming (light's gone)
Turn the lights off
Everybody likes to get taken for turns
To see how bright the fire inside of us burns
And everybody wants to get evil tonight
But all good devils masquerade under the light
Can't they take it
Should be stronger
Books abandoned
Breathe the water
Mind distracted (bad girls)
Sons and daughters (good boys)
Out for slaughter (bad guys)
Turn the lights off
Sparkles and shines on the water
Seeps through the cumulus brume
Tingles and tears while we're gazing
Vanishes soon after bedtime for good
Don't you like it (day's gone)
I know I do (night's on)
How about you? (day's gone)
What do we know (light's passed)
Tiny patterns (day's gone)
Hypnotizing (night's on)
Terrorizing (light's gone)
Turn the lights off
Everybody likes to get taken for turns
To see how bright the fire inside of us burns
And everybody wants to get evil tonight
But all good devils masquerade under the light
Chroma diamonds
Twinkle brightly
Dance in darkness
Blow the nights off
Sleepy child
Spark desire
Walk the fire
The song "Turn The Lights Off" by Tally Hall is a whimsical and mysterious tribute to the world of the imagination. The lyrics describe a fantastical realm where strange and frightening creatures come to life in the darkness, but can be controlled and bent to our will by turning off the lights. The song encourages listeners to explore the darker corners of their minds, and to embrace their inner demons in order to understand themselves better.
The first stanza describes the eerie world that can be found in the darkness behind a closed door. The lyrics suggest that if you enter into this world, you will become one with the creatures in it. They have features that are both frightening, like eyes of yellow, and fascinating, like scales and feathers, and they are restrained by their tails. The solution to this situation is to turn off the lights, implying that the darkness will help one to control their fears and tame the monsters.
The second stanza encourages the listener to embrace their darker desires and to take control of their imaginings. By "bending the nightmare," they can learn to channel their inner demons and explore their true selves. The lyrics reference trite characters like the "artful dodger" and the "snakes and lovers," and combines them to create a unique and intriguing world. The message of the song seems to be that all humans have the capacity for good and evil, and that by understanding and accepting these aspects of themselves, they can better understand the world around them.

Is it weird that I relate so much to character who had like 3 minutes of screen time and doesn't even have a canon name?
I don't even can properly explain why but I see myself in this character (I call him Theo) but I want so I'll try.
Theo is just ordinary kid, who probably isn't very liked in his class and doesn't have friends. (So do I...)
At first his life is peaceful, he enjoys it like the kids do. But then things change. He began to grow. Became a teenager. Life isn't the same as it was. He starts to feel anxious, see that the world isn't that peaceful and happy as it used to be. He finally realised that there are bad things and people around. He fears that he turns one of them (he is changing into a monster).
But then something good finally happens. He met someone who seems nice. Who share interests with him. A person he thinks he can trust. His friend. They begin to spend more time together, get closer. Theo is finally happy.
But then things again fall apart as a girl he met backstabbes him. Theo is again alone with his fears and nigthmares. The life gets bad again.
But there is some hope. For me "Turning the lights off" is moving on from the past. Giving yourself some rest
This song is very close to my heart, both music and animation-vise.
All of Tally Hall songs are important for me actually. Even if I'm a new fan, this band changed my life for better and I'm so grateful to them for that. I'm very sad that band split and they probably won't write a song together ever again. But I respect their decison.
I know it all sound dumb and cheesy and there are many grammar mistakes(I'm not native English speaker, I'm sorry for all my typos), but I just wanted to share my thoughts with somebody
If someone read this whole thing, I just want to say: thank you. Hope you all have a great day/night, whereever you are

fellas, if she has four eyes, a set of sharp canine teeth, tentacles, and scaly green skin, that's not your girl. that's a clever metaphoric representation of the "monstrosity" of puberty as experienced by an adolescent
