The Tallywood String Quartet, also known as The Tallywood Strings was created by Tom Tally and has produced a number of tribute albums to legendary rock acts such as Nirvana, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, The Cure, The Smiths, Pink Floyd, and Jimi Hendrix, as well as tributes to numerous newer rock bands, such as Linkin Park, Muse, Radiohead, Weezer, KoЯn, Incubus, Pixies and Coldplay.
A series of string quartet covers has been released by Vitamin Records by several different groups of musicians over the years, using producer/arrangers like Tom Tally, Todd Rubenstein, James McMillen and Eric Gorfain (who is now a signed artist with The Section Quartet). The albums a released using one arranger and sometimes several arranger for the same tribute.Vitamin tributes honor indie groups and mainstream as well.
If you like ‘string tributes’ you will like Tallywood Strings. They play with commitment and no apologies. The album ‘sampler’ is comprised of four instrumental tracks. Three of the tracks are Hendrix, Nirvana, and Beatles. The fourth track is a Morrissey song featuring Jose Maldanado from the Sweet and Tender Hooligans on vocals. The current members of the Tallywoodstrings came together after performing a few times with the ‘Hooligans’ at the House of Blues in Hollywood and Anaheim (which is how Jose ended up doing a vocal on one of the tracks).
Violist, Tom Tally has produced and arranged numerous albums for Vitamin
Records under the Tallywoodstrings, previous to the current group configuration. He is currently assisting Vitamin in the artist development of the Vitamin String Quartet. He can be found in string sections that recorded for Stevie Wonder, Kanye West, Willie Nelson, Aaron Neville, Jody Watley, Michael Crawford, Maria McKee, Toni Toni, Dr Dre, DJ Quik, Rod Stewart, Micheal Jackson, Macy Grey, Counting Crows, Maroon 5, Leonard Cohen, Roy Orbison, Chaka Kahn, etc. etc. During his formal education he mistakenly got the idea in his head that Jimi Hendrix was actually a violist. He has never been the same since.
The enigmatic and sometimes reclusive cellist, Cameron Stone, writes and tours with both Poe and is a member of the group Bliss, with Donna De Lory, He has written and played on numerous rock albums and commercials in the Los Angeles area and is considered to be one of Hollywoods top rock cellists and recording artists as well as a composer and song writer. He is not sane.
Violinist Nicole Garcia has been Kanye Wests string director and is emerging as one of the most highly sought after violinists and orchestra contractors in Los Angeles. She has been featured in television performances for shows such as American Idol, MTV, VH1, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and the American Music Awards. As an orchestra contractor, her activities range from assembling orchestras for live shows, to hiring ensembles for recording sessions at Capitol Studios in Hollywood. She is bent on world domination.
Violinist Neli Nikelovea has been engaging audiences with her heartfelt musicality, dazzling technique and exhilarating performances throughout Europe and North America for several years. Born in the elegant Eastern European city of Ruse overlooking the banks of the Danube River, after winning a number of competitions in her native Bulgaria, Miss Nikolaeva moved to Los Angeles alone at the age of 14. Since then she has balanced an active performing career with the demands of school, pursuing a Doctorate of Music at the University of Southern California. She believes in unicorns.

Tallywood Strings Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Think I should get off of her first
I think she wants some water
To put out the blow torch
It isn't me
We have some seed
Let me clip
Let me take a ride
Don't hurt yourself
I want some help
To please myself
I've got some rope
You have been told
I promise you
I have been true
Let me take a ride
Don't hurt yourself
I want some help
To help myself
Polly wants a cracker
Maybe she would like more food
She asks me to untie her
A chase would be nice for a few
Polly says her back hurts
And she's just as bored as me
She caught me off my guard
It amazes me, the will of instinct
The lyrics to Tallywood Strings' song "Polly" describe a disturbing situation involving a woman who may be a victim of abuse. The singer appears to be keeping Polly captive, and may have tied her up with rope. Polly expresses a desire for a cracker, but the singer seems to want something in return, possibly sexual satisfaction. He also talks about clipping her wings, which could be interpreted as an attempt to keep her from leaving. Polly mentions that she wants to be untied and go for a chase, but the singer seems to ignore her request. The song ends with the observation that even though Polly is being held against her will, her survival instincts are still strong.
There are several ways to interpret the meaning behind the lyrics of "Polly," but most agree that it is a commentary on power dynamics and oppression. The song was written by Kurt Cobain of Nirvana in 1989 and first appeared on their album "Nevermind." Tallywood Strings is a group of musicians who rearrange rock and pop songs into chamber music arrangements, so the version of "Polly" they perform has a distinctly different sound than the original.
