Some vision that I hold on to
You know it's everything I do
You know it's everything I do
Can almost stand competing with the others
Can almost hear the fun that I should be having
Instead of just dreaming
But it's only when I think of you
The mover I could turn into
There must be something I can do
Yeah, there must be something I can do
I just don't know
How to feel right
A beautiful girl
Is wasting my life
I'm playing a part
As somebody else
While trying so hard
To be myself
I just need to hear
Somebody say
That this will make sense one day
I guess I'm alright
But they're all doing so well
What I wouldn't give
To be under that spell
You'll know soon, you'll know soon
You'll know soon, you'll know soon
You'll know soon, you'll know soon, yeah
Yeah-yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah
But you don't know the truth
I really love you
You just don't believe
Anything I do
In so many ways
I'm somebody else
While trying so hard
To be myself
I just need to hear
Somebody say
This will all make
Sense one day
Well it's getting late
I'd better go
I made it this far
As far as I know
The lyrics of Tame Impalaās song āMusic To Walk Home Byā tackle the themes of self-doubt, lack of motivation, and the struggle to find oneās true identity. The first stanza talks about the singerās obsession with a person they cannot have, and how thoughts of them seem to give their life meaning. The next verse conveys the frustration and temptation of living a wild life that others have while drowning in the monotony of one's routine, knowing full well that one cannot do that because of the aforementioned love interest. The chorus is all about finding the confidence in oneself and becoming the type of person who could win the heart of the aforementioned love interest. The next verse delves deeper into the singerās struggle to find who they really are while trying to mold themselves into the person they think their love interest would want. The song ends with a final expression of uncertainty, such as the singer doesn't know where they should head to next.
The lyrics of āMusic To Walk Home Byā presents an individual's internal struggles with intense emotions that are hard to convey. Anyone who is suffering from a lack of identity and confidence can relate to the feelings expressed in the song. The feeling that you have to change yourself to fit the standards set by others is a universal issue that most people go through at some point in their lives.

But that's only when I think of you
I only feel a certain way when I think of you
Some vision that I hold on to
I have a particular image of you that I keep coming back to
You know it's everything I do
You mean everything to me
Can almost stand competing with the others
I feel like I can almost keep up with everyone else
Can almost hear the fun that I should be having
I can imagine the fun I should be having
Instead of just dreaming
But I'm not actually doing anything
The mover I could turn into
I feel like I have the potential to make big moves
There must be something I can do
I need to figure out what I can do to make those moves happen
I just don't know
I'm at a loss
How to feel right
I don't know how to feel like I'm doing the right thing
A beautiful girl
There's this beautiful girl in my life
Is wasting my life
But I can't help feeling like I'm wasting my life
I'm playing a part
Sometimes it feels like I'm just pretending to be someone I'm not
As somebody else
I'm not being my true self
While trying so hard
But I'm trying my hardest to be myself
To be myself
I just want to be true to who I am
I just need to hear
What I really need is for someone to tell me
Somebody say
To reassure me
That this will make sense one day
That one day all of this will make sense
I guess I'm alright
I suppose I'm doing okay
But they're all doing so well
But it seems like everyone else is doing better than me
What I wouldn't give
I would do anything
To be under that spell
To experience that same level of success or happiness
You'll know soon, you'll know soon
I promise you'll find out soon
Yeah-yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah
Trust me
But you don't know the truth
But the truth is
I really love you
I love you so much
You just don't believe
But you don't seem to believe me
Anything I do
Or anything that I'm doing
In so many ways
Sometimes in a lot of different ways
Well it's getting late
It's getting late now
I'd better go
So I should probably go
I made it this far
I've come pretty far
As far as I know
As far as I can tell
