nothing that has happened so far has been anything that we could control
Tame Impala Lyrics

Been anything we could control.
I have just been waiting for the perfect
Time to tell you I don't know.
Maybe I'm just reading into it a
Little deeper than I should
We would make it easy we would take
It slowly if only we could
"Hey, what are you doing out here?
You're thinking about everything, aren't you?
I know it's crazy, but just don't think of it like that
Nothing has to mean anything
Come on, come back inside"
Elodie,
Look at me,
Unless you're trying to hurt me
Heavy blow,
Down I go
Now I just want to let go
Is it right?
Is it wrong?
I don't know,
It's not the cause I'm fighting for
Anymore
But it sucks to keep on running
Eventually,
There will be
A time for clearer thinking
For now I weep
Can't get to sleep
I try to hold a good feeling
I just get one,
Here it comes,
There it goes,
And we just might,
Lose the fight, yeah
But it's alright
It wasn't our decision
Nothing that has happened so far
Has been anything we could control
I have just been waiting for the perfect
Time to tell you that I don't know
Every man is happy until
Happiness is suddenly a goal
I'll just be here waiting till the
Doctor calls and then I'll let you know
The song “Nothing That Has Happened So Far” by Tame Impala is a contemplative reflection on the idea of control and our inability to fully control our lives. The singer acknowledges that everything that has happened so far is out of our hands and that we can’t predict or control what is to come. He is waiting for the perfect time to tell someone that he doesn’t know, which suggests that he is unsure about the future and what it holds. The line “Maybe I’m just reading into it a little deeper than I should” implies that he is overthinking things, but he can’t help it.
The second verse introduces a dialogue between two people. One is trying to comfort the other, telling them not to worry and that nothing has to mean anything. However, the singer knows that this isn't true and that everything does have significance, even if we can't see it now. The line “Unless you’re trying to hurt me” seems to suggest that the other person might have some negative intentions towards the singer, which adds to the uncertainty and lack of control in the situation.
The bridge of the song introduces a new character named Elodie, who is asked to look at the singer. He is trying to connect with her and make sure that she is not trying to hurt him. However, a heavy blow knocks him down and he wants to let go of everything. It is unclear what this blow is, but it adds to the tension and unease of the situation.
Overall, “Nothing That Has Happened So Far” is a poignant reflection on the human experience of control, uncertainty, and the ever-changing nature of life.

Not underrated at all. Frequently brought up as potential best song by Tame

Adam Klingenberger Meh. I think it’s underrated
@BeckerAviation
I think he means it's underrated among most fans, or just casual fans that are mostly vivid festival white girls, but among the core of the Tame Impala fanbase this song is well appreciated. Truly a gem.
