Ah, yeah, yeah
Every now and then
I seem to get this funny feelin'
When it comes to me and you
Can't say how or when
But your love keeps takin' over
Well, I think that you oughta let me know what
What you're gonna do, oh baby
'Cause time's wasting, baby, much too fast and
I need to know if it's true
So baby, let me know
Baby, let me know if you want me
I really wanna know if you want me
And baby, if you don't tell me something
I gotta move on
'Cause everybody need a little lovin'
And you're the only one that I wanna be with
I'm sorry if you don't tell me something
But I gotta move on
Baby, understand
Oh, I need more than conversation
I need action from a man, oh
'Cause I'll do all I can
To keep our love from going under
Now it's time you take a stand, oh
And I think that you oughta let me know what
What you're gonna do, you're gonna do, yeah
'Cause time's wasting, baby much too fast and
I need to know if it's true
So baby, let me know
Baby, let me know if you want me
I really wanna know if you want me
And baby, if you don't tell me something
I gotta move on
'Cause everybody need a little lovin'
And you're the only one that I wanna be with
I'm sorry if you don't tell me something
But I gotta move on
Baby, let me know if you want me
I really wanna know if you want me
And baby, if you don't tell me something
I gotta move, I gotta move
'Cause everybody need a little lovin'
And you're the only one that I wanna be with
I'm sorry if you don't tell me something
I gotta move on, yeah, yeah
And I gotta move
Move on
Gotta move
Well, I gotta move
Move on
Gotta move, move on
Baby, let me know if you want me
I really wanna know if you want me
And baby, if you don't tell me something
I gotta move on, now tell me
'Cause everybody need a little lovin'
And you're the only one that I wanna be with
I'm sorry if you don't tell me something
But I gotta move on, move on
Baby, let me know if you want me
I really wanna know if you want me
And baby, if you don't tell me something
I gotta move on, baby
'Cause everybody need a little lovin'
And you're the only one that I wanna be with
I'm sorry if you don't tell me something
But I gotta move, move on
Baby, let me know if you want me
I really wanna know if you want me
And baby, if you don't tell me something
I gotta move on, yeah
'Cause everybody need a little lovin'
And you're the only one that I wanna be with
I'm sorry if you don't tell me something
Baby, you're the only one that I wanna be with
Baby, let me know if you want me
I really wanna know if you want me
'Cause everybody need a little lovin'
And you're the only one that I wanna be with
(Move on, gotta move)
Baby, let me know if you want me (well, I gotta move)
I really wanna know if you want me (move on)
The lyrics of Tamia's song Gotta Move On depict a woman who is uncertain about her relationship with her partner. She experiences an unusual feeling she cannot explain when she is with her partner, but she is aware that she needs more than just conversation, she needs some action. The woman expresses her feelings in a bid to make things right, asking her partner to let her know what he's going to do. She is impatient because time is slipping away, and she needs to know if their love is real. She needs a resolution before she can commit because everyone needs love, and her partner is the only person she wants to be with. But, if she doesn't receive confirmation one way or the other, she states she will have to move on.
The lyrics of the song convey a universal theme, the uncertainty people endure concerning their relationships. Individuals have come under the impression that they are free to transition into different relationships as long as they are not happy with their current partners. The chorus reinforces this concept as it states that everyone needs love, and if Tamia's partner is not giving her what she needs, she understands that there are other options. The rhetorical questions she asks her partner indicate that her apprehension is persistent, and the song establishes an empathetic tone that other individuals may relate to.
