Cry Little Sister
Tangerine Dream Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A last fire will rise behind those eyes
Black house will rock, blind boys don't lie
Immortal fear, that voice so clear
Through broken walls, that scream I hear

Cry, little sister - Thou shall not fall
Come to your brother - Thou shall not die
Unchain me, sister - Thou shall not fear
Love is with your brother - Thou shall not kill

Blue masquerade, strangers look on
When will they learn this loneliness?
Temptation heat beats like a drum
Deep in your veins, I will not lie

Little sister - Thou shall not fall
Come to your brother - Thou shall not die
Unchain me, sister - Thou shall not fear
Love is with your brother - Thou shall not kill

My Shangri-Las
I can't forget
Why you were mine
I need you now

Cry, little sister - Thou shall not fall
Come to your brother - Thou shall not die

Unchain me, sister - Thou shall not fear
Love is with your brother - Thou shall not kill

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Tangerine Dream's song "Cry Little Sister" tell a story of a dangerous, seductive relationship between a brother and sister. The first verse hints at a sinister force behind the brother's eyes, and suggests that the siblings are living in a black house. The brother seems to have some kind of power over the sister, as he tells her not to fall, not to fear, and not to kill. He refers to himself as her brother, but seems to be asking for her love in a way that goes beyond filial affection.

In the second verse, the atmosphere becomes even more ominous as the brother describes a blue masquerade where strangers look on. The sister is drawn to her brother despite the danger, and he promises that love is with her brother, but still urges her not to fall, die, fear, or kill. The chorus repeats this injunction several times, as if to emphasize the gravity of the situation.

The final lines of the song, "My Shangri-Las, I can't forget why you were mine, I need you now," further emphasize the brother's fixation on his sister and his desire to possess her. The lyrics of "Cry Little Sister" are haunting and intense, and seem to explore the dark side of human relationships.
