Tangier formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and grew up in the clubs with bands such as Cinderella, who would later help the group out by having Tangier open for them on occasion. The first album comprised of Bill Mattson (vocals), Doug Gordon (guitar), Rocco Mazzella (guitar), Mike Kost (bass) and Mark Hopkins (drums) and is relatively hard to find these days. Around the songwriting of Doug Gordon, It wouldn't be until the follow-up, released some four years later with Gari Saint (guitar), Garry Nutt (bass) and Bobby Bender (drums), that the band finally received overdue recognition and a major label deal with ATCO records. However Four Winds failed to match the success of their Philly cohorts, and Tangier was forced to go back to the drawing board once again.
Separating with both Mattson and Saint, the band brought in vocalist/guitarist Mike LeCompt in an attempt to start fresh. LeCompt's gruff soulful vocals brought a heavier edge to the band, but by this time the tide had changed and the Seattle sound was all the rage. The band separated shortly thereafter.
In 2013, Rock Candy Records re-released a remastered "Four Winds" with a 14 page CD insert, new pics and and fresh bios. A really nice package of a one of the strongest albums to come out of the era.
Bad Girl
Tangier Lyrics

Real young cheater
Got the smile
It don't come sweeter
She's the one
Wrapped real tight
Lookin' for love
Mmm, take ya round and lock you up
Do it anyway she can
Make ya feel you're the only one
Then do it to another man
She's a bad girl bring you to your knees
She's a bad girl throw away the key
She's a bad girl very debonaire
Look at her now, all grown up, in the leather wear
Raise a toast
A champagne high
She's the most
And that's alright
Out to steal
A little romance
Gotta feel
It's a snakeskin dance
Just wants to dance
Take ya round and lock you up
Do it anyway she can
Make ya feel you're the only one
Then do it to another man
She's a bad girl bring you to your knees
She's a bad girl, yeah throw away the keys
She's a bad girl very debonaire
Look at her now, all grown up, in the leather wear
She needs no aggravation
She don't try and understand
She causes complications
All I know -- She don't care
She got it well in hand
Oh yeah
Mmm yeah
Oh, she's a bad girl bring you to your knees
She's a bad girl throw away the key
She's a bad girl very debonaire
Look at her now, all grown up, in the leather wear
She's a bad girl bring you to your knees
She's a bad girl, oh throw away the key
She's a bad girl very debonaire
Look at her now, all grown up, in the leather wear
She's a bad girl bring you to your knees
She's a bad girl throw away the key
She's a bad girl very debonaire
Look at her now, all grown up, in the leather wear
In Tangier's song "Bad Girl," the lyrics describe a woman who is a master of manipulation, using her charm to lure in unsuspecting men and then discarding them for the next conquest. The song depicts her as a "real young cheater" with a smile that is sweet but hiding her true intentions. She is wrapped up tight, appearing to be looking for love, but in reality, she is on the hunt for her next victim.
The chorus repeats her designation as a "bad girl," emphasizing her danger to those who fall under her control. She is described as being "very debonaire" and "grown up in leather wear," portraying her as a confident and alluring figure. She is also shown to be a drinker of champagne, further highlighting her luxurious and hedonistic lifestyle.
Interestingly, the song's lyrics do not condemn or judge the bad girl, but instead seem to glamorize her seductive power. The lyrics suggest that the bad girl needs "no aggravation" and "causes complications," but "don't care" because she has "it well in hand." The song celebrates the bad girl's independence and self-assurance while warning of the danger she poses to those who fall for her charm.
Overall, "Bad Girl" is a catchy and seductive song that depicts the allure of a manipulative woman. The lyrics praise the bad girl's power and confidence while warning of the danger she poses to those who fall for her tricks.
