I See The Light
Tangled Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All those days watching from the window
All those years outside looking in

All that time never even knowing
Just how blind I've been
Now I'm here, blinking in the starlight
Now I'm here, suddenly I see
Standing here, it's all so clear
I'm where I'm meant to be

And at last I see the light
And it's like the fog has lifted
And at last I see the light
And it's like the sky is new
And it's warm and real and bright
And the world has somehow shifted
All at once everything looks different
Now that I see you

Eugene(Flynn):
All those days chasing down a daydream
All those years living in a blur
All that time never truly seeing
Things, the way they were
Now she's here shining in the starlight
Now she's here, suddenly I know

If she's here it's crystal clear
I'm where I'm meant to go

Rapunzel & Eugene (Flynn):
And at last I see the light

Eugene (Flynn):
And it's like the fog is lifted

Rapunzel & Eugene (Flynn):
And at last I see the light

Rapunzel:
And it's like the sky is new

Rapunzel & Eugene (Flynn):
And it's warm and real and bright
And the world has somehow shifted

All at once, everything is different
Now that I see you, now that I see you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "I See the Light" from Disney's Tangled are about the realization and awakening of true love. Rapunzel and Eugene have spent a significant amount of time searching for their purpose, but when they finally find one another, everything changes. The first verse, sung by Rapunzel, is about how she spent her entire life watching the world go by from a distance, always wondering what was on the other side of the horizon. She never knew how limited her perspective was until she gained a new one through love. The second verse, sung by Eugene, is about how he spent his life chasing unfulfilling dreams, always living in a daze without any sense of direction. He didn't realize how disoriented he was until Rapunzel arrived.

The chorus, sung by both Rapunzel and Eugene, is about the moment when their worlds collide, and they finally open their eyes to the possibilities of a different and better life. They use the imagery of the fog lifting and the sky becoming new to illustrate the way their views have been transformed. They gush over how bright and real everything is now, and they feel as though the world has shifted beneath them. They conclude by acknowledging that the everything is different now that they see each other.

The song does more than provide a moment of heartwarming romance in the movie; it's a pivotal point in the plot. Their love for each other helps them overcome the obstacles they had been facing throughout the entire film. The lyrics tell a story of two others who had once lived in darkness only to see the light and each other.
