"The first time I heard Tania Libertad sing,it was a revelation from on high - from a place where only a naked voice might go,alone in the world, unaccompanied by any instrument. Tania was singing the Rafael Alberti composition "La Paloma" acapella, and each note touched a string in my soul until I was completely dazzled." - José Saramago
El Jinete
Tania Libertad Lyrics

Va cabalgando un jinete
Vaga sólito en el mundo
Y va deseando la muerte
Lleva en su pecho una herida
Va con su alma destrozada
Quisiera perder la vida
La quería más que a su vida
Y la perdió para siempre
Por eso lleva una herida
Por eso busca la muerte
Por eso lleva una herida
Por eso
Busca la muerte
Con su guitarra cantando
Se pasa noches enteras
Hombre y guitarra llorando
A la luz de las estrellas
Después se pierde en la noche
Y aunque la noche es muy bella
Él va pidiéndole a dios
Que se lo lleve con ella
La quería más que a su vida
Y la perdió para siempre
Por eso lleva una herida
Por eso busca la muerte
Por eso lleva una herida
Por eso
Busca la muerte
The lyrics of Tania Libertad's El Jinete tell the story of a horseman who rides alone through distant mountains, longing for death. He bears a wound in his heart and his soul is shattered, as he deeply loved a woman who he lost forever. The hole in his soul that her departure left behind pains him so much that he desires to die and reunite with his beloved. This feeling is so overwhelming that he carries his guitar and sings to the stars during nights that feel endless. He cries for his loss, but as the dawn approaches, he disappears into the dark, looking for a way to be reunited with his loved one once again.
The song conveys strong emotions of heartbreak, loss, and a longing for death. The jinete's life has no meaning without his loved one, and he would rather seek refuge in death than live in the world without her. The poignant lyrics of the song are enhanced by the beautiful melody and Tania Libertad's emotive voice.
