My Heart
Tank Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A dandelion dancing in the fairgrounds
Like a New Orleans lily
Magnolia and misbelieves, leaves falling
And leaving too soon
Stevie said you'd leave in Autumn
He ain't said shit about June

From my heart and my soul
I give you my all, (aye) ah, ooh
From my heart and my soul
I give you my all, aye
From my heart and my soul
I give you my all, aye

I'm a student of the intellectual, sapiosexual
Translucent, fluent human who really ain't shit

Why can't it be the way
We both know it should go

I'm huffing on that puffy, feel like I should lay low
Tapping on the rim shot, feel the hole up in my soul
Should I rely on just my ayo?
Put my pride to the side, 'cause my garden growing slow
Who knows, who knows? (so)
Low and behold all the gold in your soul

From my heart and my soul
I give you my all, aye
Huffing on that puffy
From my heart and soul
I give you my all, aye
Yeah, I get needy sometimes
From my heart and my soul
I give you my all, aye
Low and behold all the gold in your soul
From my heart and my soul
I give you my all, aye

I need you

do do, da da, ah

My feelings are in control of me
Ah ah ah, ah, ah ah, ah ah, ah

From my heart and my soul
I give you my all, aye

Overall Meaning

Tank’s “My Heart” is a love song with a mix of metaphors and introspection. The lyrics in the first verse compare the unsteadiness of a dandelion to the fleeting nature of a love interest. The mention of New Orleans lilies and magnolias paints an image of fragility, beauty, and Southern charm. However, the love that is represented by the leaves has died, and just like the leaves, it left too soon. The second part of the verse references Stevie Wonder’s song “You Are The Sunshine Of My Life” and the lyric “you walked into my life in the month of May,” and Tank confesses that he wasn’t ready for the relationship to end so soon.

The chorus of the song is an expression of Tank’s vulnerability and willingness to love. He sings that he’s giving his all from his heart and soul. The second verse brings a mix of abstract concepts and vulnerability. Tank starts by describing himself as a student of the intellectual and sapiosexual. He then admits that despite being fluent and translucent, he’s really not much of anything. The following lines are introspective with Tank questioning why things can’t be the way they should. He then talks about huffing on “that puffy” which could be interpreted as smoking marijuana to deal with his emotions. He goes on to talk about tapping on the rimshot, which represents the drum in the song, and feeling the hole in his soul. Tank then asks whether he should rely on just himself or put his pride aside and grow as a person. In the end, he discovers a treasure in his love interest that he wants to hold on to.
