Still at War
Tank Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All right... There they stand our fine leaders all,
While they're together... Has any one thought to talk...
There's no plan. Crisis? Not at all their own existence
Relies on a horse to stalk...
While they're backbiting an air strike, like lightning engage!
There's been no peace sittings today... They're still fighting... 'Cause we're Still at War,
Still at War, still fighting, but what are they fighting for
Uncle Sam, this one's too close to call, you're under pressure,
From Israel's wailing wall, insane sad man
Your flag's about to fall the world is indifferent
To your pleas for food for oil hatred inciting
A no-fly zone sitting... engage! It's too late the bombs are away...They're still fighting...
Cause we're, Still at War... Still at War. Still fighting, but what are they fighting for?

[x2]
Still At War... Still At War... Let it be so... They're still fighting,

'Cause we're, Still At War. Still At War, still fighting,
But what are they fighting for? [Repeat] Still At War... Still At War...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Still at War" by Tank are a political commentary on the state of global affairs, the lack of leadership, and the constant conflicts that persist around the world. The opening lines of the song suggest that there are leaders who stand, perhaps in a meeting, while no one seems to be making an effort to resolve the issues at hand. There is no plan, and they are not taking the crisis seriously. Instead, they rely on a horse to stalk, which could be interpreted as a metaphor for a lack of effort and progress.

The chorus echoes the sentiment that they are still at war, and the fighting continues, but what are they fighting for? The lyrics suggest that the cause of the conflict is not clear, indicating a sense of confusion and frustration. The verses also touch on some of the specific issues that contribute to global conflicts: the pressure on the US from Israel, the indifference of the world to pleas for food and oil, and the incitement of hatred.

Overall, the song presents a bleak view of the state of global affairs and the lack of leadership and progress. It highlights the need for more effective and responsible leadership to address the challenges facing the world.

The mighty Tank is still at war💪💣

Yoke Records

My review on Allmusic written July 7, 2018. 3.5 Stars

Tank's 2002 comeback album Still At War is a welcome addition for Tank fans. Algy Ward returns with a competent and very interesting slab of Metal. As a huge Tank fan, I can enjoy Still At War but to be fair, this album sounds like a different band on many of the cuts than the one that produced several of the best LPs in the genre. Still At War does have it's moments, such as the scorching, old school sounding "Light The Fire (Watch 'Em Burn)" and "And Then We Heard The Thunder" but it is basically for Tank fans only. The curious should seek out the first four albums to discover the absolute greatness of Tank. All of these albums come highly recommended.
