All of Me
Tanlines Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Worn out faces hanging on the wall
Foreign places, names you still recall
You say loud to yourself, why you just don't care?
Say the things no one else will ever dare.

So pardon me for asking, pardon me for thinking
Pardon me for asking, pardon me for thinking
All of me is asking, all of me is thinking
All of me is asking, all of me is thinking

So say it loud if you need it, we've got tough emotions
Do what you don't do
So say it loud when you need it, we've got tough emotions
I'm in awe of you

So say it loud if you need it, we've got tough emotions
Do what you don't do
So say it loud when you need it, we've got tough emotions
I'm in awe of you

So you lie to yourself
Why you just aren't scared
All the things that you felt, were always there

So pardon me for asking, pardon me for thinking
Pardon me for asking, pardon me for thinking

All of me is asking, all of me is thinking
All of me is asking, all of me is thinking

So say it loud if you need it, we've got tough emotions
Do what you don't do
So say it loud when you need it, we've got tough emotions
I'm in awe of you

So say it loud if you need it, we've got tough emotions
Do what you don't do
So say it loud when you need it, we've got tough emotions
I'm in awe of you

So say it loud if you need it, we've got tough emotions
Do what you don't do
So say it loud when you need it, we've got tough emotions
I'm in awe of you

So say it loud if you need it, we've got tough emotions
Do what you don't do

So say it loud when you need it, we've got tough emotions
I'm in awe of you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Tanlines's song "All of Me" express a sense of longing and a need to be courageous and honest about one's emotions, even if it means risking rejection or vulnerability. The reference to "worn out faces hanging on the wall" and "foreign places" suggests a sense of nostalgia or longing for something that is no longer accessible. The lyrics describe a struggle to be true to oneself and to express one's emotions authentically, without fear of judgment or rejection. The chorus encourages the listener to be bold and to express themselves honestly, with the assertion that "we've got tough emotions." The repetition of the line "Do what you don't do" reinforces the idea that it is important to take risks and be true to oneself, even if it means stepping outside of one's comfort zone. The final line, "I'm in awe of you," expresses admiration for someone who is able to be brave and express themselves honestly.

I am one of the dancers in this video - it was great fun to shoot, and Julian Barratt was a real gentleman.

I have very fond memories of playing the "Delivery Man" in this video for Julian Barratt. Filmed at the very atmospheric Bethnal Green Working Mens Club in Pollard Row near the old People Show HQ. The actual dance floor is in the basement, but in the edit appears to be upstairs.
