Drifting Away
Tanner Patrick Lyrics

My arms unfold and nobody's gonna get my eyes off you
Promise me you'll lead me away from the past and the broken
I can't explain all the things that I was thinking
My eye's on you- promise me you'll lead me away
I've been waiting for you
And if I slow my breathing
I've been drifting away
Away from these average thoughts
And into every word you say
I've been drifting away
Oh I've been slipping away
I've been drifting away
And I've been slipping
into every word you say
The love I sought would have never been in this light
A parking lot, down south, close to midnight
Come back soon I promise you I'll lead you away
From the past and the broken
I've been burned so I know what you were thinking
Come back soon I promise you I'll let you away
I've been waiting for you
And if I slow my breathing
I'll build a spine and make a move
I've been drifting away
Away from these average thoughts
And into every word you say
I've been drifting away
Oh I've been slipping away
I've been drifting away
And I've been slipping
into every word you say
I broke one
Why another one?
Too many times I've played the fool
But God knows my breaks brought me back to you
I broke one
Why another one?
I can't believe I'm seeing two
But God knows my breaks bear to save you
I've been waiting for you
And if I slow my breathing
I'll build a spine and make a move
I've been drifting away
Away from these average thoughts
And into every word you say
I've been drifting away
Oh I've been slipping away
I've been drifting away
And I've been slipping
into every word you say.
In the song Drifting Away, Tanner Patrick laments about falling short in the middle of the spotlight as his arms unfold to nobody. He promises to be led away from the past and the broken, and his eyes are fixed on someone who he hopes will take him away. He has been waiting for this person, and as he slows his breathing and builds a spine, he makes a move towards them. The lyrics indicate that he has been drifting away from average thoughts and into every word this person says. The location of their meeting is in a parking lot down south close to midnight. He is burned and has played the fool too many times before, but he believes that his breaks brought him back to this person.
The song speaks about the desire to find love and escape from past hurts, losses, and disappointments. There is a sense of longing and yearning to be with someone who could save him from himself. The lyrics paint a picture of vulnerability and honesty as Tanner Patrick lays bare his emotions, making it relatable to anyone who has gone through heartbreak or is searching for love.

I had forgotten about this song and I just listened to it for the first time in at least two years and as soon as I heard it the words came rushing back to me and I felt so nostalgic. For 3 minutes I was in grade school again and it was so nice
