Tell Me About It
Tanya Tucker Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The things you think will last disappear
When you were ready to say I do
Somebody lowered the boom on you
Now you need a sympathetic ear
Tell me about it
Tell me about teardrops in the dark
Tell me about your broken heart
You say you need someone to hold you tight
(You) can't stand another lonely night
Well come closer and
Tell me about it
Love isn't always true it hurts sometimes
Your tears will tell on you girl, I'm not blind
I know what you're goin' through
I graduated from that school too
If you need a shoulder cry on mine
Tell me about it
Tell me about teardrops in the dark
Tell me about it
Tell me about your broken heart
You say you need someone to hold you tight
(You) can't stand another lonely night
Well come closer and
Tell me about it
You took a lesson in playin' a fool
I graduated from that school too
If you need a shoulder cry on mine
Tell me about it
Tell me about teardrops in the dark
Tell me about it
Tell me about your broken heart
You say you need someone to hold you tight
(You) can't stand another lonely night
Well come closer and
Tell me about it
Tanya Tucker's song Tell Me About It conveys a message of empathy and solidarity to those who have experienced heartbreak and disappointment in relationships. The opening lyrics state that there's a hole in the atmosphere, suggesting a sense of emptiness and loss. The following line, "the things you think will last disappear," reinforces the feeling of instability and uncertainty in love. The singer then addresses someone who was presumably ready to get married but was left hanging. The phrasing "somebody lowered the boom on you" adds a touch of humor and colloquialism, but also implies something sudden and hurtful happened.
The chorus emphasizes the need to vent and seek comfort in someone who can understand and relate to one's pain. The line "love isn't always true, it hurts sometimes" is a stark admission that relationships are not always rosy, and that heartbreak is an inevitable part of the process. The singer then assures the listener that they know what it feels like, and can offer a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. The last verse seems to address the fact that both the singer and the listener have been through similar experiences, and have learned from them. The song ends on a note of camaraderie and understanding.

What a treat, to see Tanya back strong, mature, strong and making great music with Delbert, whom I had not seen yet. I 1st saw Tanya Live in Concert in San Diego, about 1972 or 1973, when she was 14 or 15. Tanya still Rocks Hot!-:)
