Higher
Tara MacLean Lyrics

Of everything I ever saw
You'd be the one to lift me up
Higher than I am
If the sky came crashing down
You'd be the only star I found
Of all those scattered on the ground
I'd hold you in my hand
Higher
Higher than I am
So this is where I want to be
From now until eternity
A shepherd of the soul to me
And I will be the lamb
Higher
Higher
Higher than I am
I see you sleeping now
Invincible and golden
There's nowhere else to go from here
Higher
Higher
Higher than I am
In Tara MacLean's song "Higher", the lyrics convey the idea of being elevated to a higher state of being through the presence of another person. The singer expresses her desire to live her life in awe of all that surrounds her, and believes that the person she is addressing is the one who can lift her up higher than she currently is. She then goes on to say that if everything were to crumble around her, this person would be the only one she would want to be with, and she would hold them in her hand.
The chorus repeats the word "higher" three times, emphasizing the feeling of wanting to be elevated and lifted up by this person. The second verse reinforces this idea, stating that being with this person is where the singer wants to be for eternity, and compares the person to a shepherd of the soul, with the singer being the lamb. The last verse sees the singer observing the person asleep and feeling invincible and golden, and concluding that there is nowhere else to go from here but higher than she currently is.
Overall, the lyrics of "Higher" convey a sense of yearning to be lifted up and elevated to a higher state of being, with the presence of another person being the key to achieving that. The lyrics paint a picture of a deep connection between two people, with one person being the catalyst for the other to reach their full potential.
