Calling Grace
Tarja Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Captured in his frozen heart
Colours fade into grey
She tried so hard
Every word was torn apart
Shot her down with poisoned darts
Her tears made her swim beneath the sea.
Calling grace
She'll never fall again
Love remains in her
Softly, her inner voice has learned to speak
Following her dreams.
Her tears made her swim beneath the sea.
She's free.
Calling grace
She'll never fall again
Love remains in her
Calling grace.
She will rise again
Sacrifice the saints
Still love remains...
The lyrics of Tarja’s song ‘Calling Grace’ is a poignant portrayal of a woman who has been trapped in the confines of her partner’s heart. The first verse, ‘In the dark, captured in his frozen heart, colours fade into grey,’ showcases the despondent state of the woman who finds herself in a loveless relationship. Every word she utters is disregarded by her partner and is shattered into pieces. The use of the phrase ‘poisoned darts’ portrays the toxicity of the relationship and how the more the woman tries to express herself, the more she gets hurt, and ultimately she finds herself drowning in her tears. However, the woman eventually finds the courage to free herself from the toxicity of the relationship and finally finds solace. The lyrics, ‘Her tears made her swim beneath the sea. She's free,’ is a symbol of how the tears that once suffocated her eventually became the means of her liberation.
The chorus of the song, ‘Calling grace, she'll never fall again. Love remains in her’ is where the artist showcases the resilience of the singer. She refuses to be cowed down by her painful past and instead rises like a phoenix from the ashes of her despair. She learns to speak her truth with conviction and follows her dreams. The words ‘Calling Grace’ signify that she is seeking divine intervention to help her overcome her trauma and find peace. Ultimately, Tarja’s song conveys a powerful message of hope, love, and freedom. A woman who has been trapped in the darkness of her past can transcend the pain and move towards a brighter future where love remains in her heart.
