She is the former lead singer of the Finnish band Nightwish which she founded along with Emppu Vuorinen and Tuomas Holopainen in 1996. After being expelled from the band in October 2005, Tarja Turunen is now devoting her time to her solo career under the stage name of Tarja.
During the spring of 2005, she prepared a collaboration with Germany's Martin Kesici, the duet Leaving You for Me, also accompanied by a video. On November 8th 2006, Tarja's first solo album, HenkÀys Ikuisuudesta was released as a Christmas album.
Tarja's second solo album, My Winter Storm, was released in November 2007 and achieved gold status in Finland on the day of release. The album took the number 1 spot in the Finnish charts. Tarja also sings on track In The Picture, composed by Rage guitarist Victor Smolski, on Nuclear Blast Allstars' album 'Into The Light', 2007. In 2009, Tarja released a duet with Doro Pesch, the former vocalist for heavy metal band Warlock.
Tarja's third solo album, What Lies Beneath was released in Finland on September 1, 2010. The album sold around 1,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release, landing it position 24 on the Top New Artist Albums chart. This is the first album on which Tarja is credited for composition on every original track.

Bueno a 2 años de tu comentario, aun esta Vigente Tarja... buena al menos para mi, en cuanto a lo que dices de su nivel yo creo que este proyecto o carrera en solitario lo que hace es dejar ver su gran profesionalismo al poder realizar temas como estos por que creo que bajar los desibeles de su voz y adaptarlo a este tema es algo que debe ser difĂcil y muestra humildad al menos esa es mi mera y simple opiniĂłn, yo que soy un simple mortal ;)

she used to be the face and the voice of nightwish, her solo career never really hit the mark since she left it, and people are probably still angry about it. when you compare this to Nemo or even Over The Hills And Far Away, it feels a bit lackluster, but it might be just the nostalgia talking. I do hope she'll have great success, and continue to grow as one of the better voice artist i've ever heard, but this, in my opinion, just lacks spirit, it feels white, it feels nothingness, which make me sad considering her voice capabillity. I do hope she'll overcome what she naturally had from other's member of her old crow, and grow up as a better artist, yet this is good, but not even close to what she did with nightwish. (Sorry if I made some mistakes, that's not my first language, and I'm too lazy to check it)

Tem certas coisas que eu li aqui, sobre as criticas a cantora sobre fazer o mesmo trabalho e estar na mesmice. Na boa, parece que as pessoas realmente nĂŁo sabem ouvir mĂșsica, sĂł sabem escutar.Olhem o Abismo entre MWS, WLB e Coulors in the Dark. Arranjos totalmente diferente e uma harmonia sem igual e composiçÔes mais misticas. Uma observação nesta nova mĂșsica, a voz dela, ela esta mantendo um ritmo rente e sem esbanjar de notas altas. A mĂșsica segue sempre em processo de evolução e os arranjos couberam perfeitamente com a performance vocal dela, adoreio solo de guitarra. Primeira coisa que "fĂŁ" da Tarja tem que aceitar Ă© que ela jĂĄ nĂŁo carrega mais o rĂłtulo ex vocalista da banda Nightwish e que o estilo dela, nĂŁo Ă© o da banda e nĂŁo irĂĄ focar no passado morto. Este Ă© o trabalho dela, este Ă© o talento dela. Se as pessoas nĂŁo curtem, melhor dar um joinha negativo ou se mostrar neutro, melhor que ficar procurando justificativas vazias.
