Varpunen Jouluaamuna
Tarja Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Järven aalto jäätynyt talvipakkasessa.
Varpunen pienoinen, syönyt kesäeinehen,
Järven aalto jäätynyt talvi pakkasessa.
Pienen pirtin portailla oli tyttökulta:
Tule, varpu, riemulla, ota siemen multa!
Joulu on, koditon varpuseni onneton,
Tytön luo nyt riemuiten lensi varpukulta:
Kiitollisna siemenen otan kyllä sulta.
Palkita Jumala tahtoo kerran sinua.
Kiitollisna siemenen otan kyllä sulta!
En mä ole, lapseni, lintu tästä maasta,
Olen pieni veljesi, tulin taivahasta.
Siemenen pienoisen, jonka annoit köyhällen,
Pieni sai sun veljesi enkeleitten maasta.
The lyrics to Tarja's "Varpunen Jouluaamuna" paint a picturesque scene of winter's arrival, where snow has covered the flowers in the valley and the lake has frozen over in the cold winter weather. The song focuses on a small, unassuming sparrow who has eaten his fill during the summer months and is now left homeless in the winter. The sparrow meets a young girl at her doorstep, who invites the bird in and offers him a seed. Overwhelmed with gratitude, the sparrow thanks the girl for her kindness and promises that God will reward her.
The song's lyrics not only highlight the beauty and harshness of winter but also personify the sparrow as a small and helpless creature at the mercy of the season. The girl in the song represents an act of kindness and the concept of giving, as she gives a small seed to the bird out of compassion. The lyrics are symbolic of the themes of charity, grace, and the hope of reward for doing good deeds.

The english lyrics.<3 To the girl now happily flew the dear sparrow: thankfully a seed I will take from you. God will want to reward you one day. Thankfully a seed I will take from you! I am not, my child, a bird from this land, I am your little brother, I came from heaven. The little seed, that you gave to the poor, got your little brother from the land of angels. (Part 2)
