It would have been interesting to see a Tatanka IC title run at that time, but at the same time I can see why they wanted to keep the belt on Shawn, as there were multiple potential important feuds he could have moved on to at that time, Hennig was being teased, and I wish we had seen more of a long term feud between those two for the belt. Plus Marty was in and out of the company at that time, but it was known that if he came back they would fight over the belt. Tatanka on the other hand, I'm struggle to see any real feuds that might have drawn big money. Maybe Razor, or Bam Bam, but those matches wouldn't have seemed so big right at that time. Always loved Tatanka btw.

I remember a friend telling me that years ago Tatanka ws brought over here to UK to wrestle for the UK Hammerlock promotion. He was brought to the house where all the import wrestlers were staying and later in the day they were all sat there and watching Jerry Springer and Tatanka starting praying for the souls of all the guests on Jerry Springer lol

After seeing a couple of vintage Cornette videos all I can think of is my childhood watching WYMT ch 57 and 57 cent tickets for 12 and under, the Hayden drive threw of course. Most of all the joy and escape that SMW brought me. I live close to Feds Creek, which is mentioned and I now drive by that school every day on my way to work. There was nothing like a full house in those old East KY popcorn box gyms.

Well... few things.
1) I loved the Tatanka gimmick; dude was fire.
2) He was on the wrong side of the kliq, hence why he beat Shawn in a match you can't find anywhere, but couldn't get the belt off of him at Mania 9. After that, they just weren't sure what to do with him. Other than Razor, Shawn and Yoko, there weren't really heels worth a big time feud, ya know? Most of the big heels were a part of a tag team: Quebeccers, Money Inc, Nasty Boys, etc. They were starting a push for Jarrett, so the only single feud left was really Bam Bam or Kamala, latter of whom had a thing with Undertaker
3) They wanted to push a monster heel: how better than to squash the over and undefeated Tatanka. He was supposed to get his return match, but it was scrapped because Borga got a career ending ankle injury.
4) The Ten Man Tag was scrapped because WM10 ran long for IC ladder match. It would air later on either Raw or Superstars
5) They turned him heel in 1994 because the pool was shallow and they needed more heels who could actually put on a good, athletic, competitive match(it would be a problem for years). He became the worker who lost in the Corporation stable because... well the rest of the guys at the time were Irwin, Bundy, Bam Bam, Kama, and non-wrestlers.
6) December 94 he was accused of sexual assault, so he was out for most of 95. Between that and the "talking to god" moment, they weren't going to push him anymore.
I don't think he was being punished (well, until 1995), it was just a series of things he was on the wrong side of, and some creative decisions that didn't pan out.

Tatanka was the truth...one of my favorites around '93-'94 up until the heel turn when he joined the Million Dollar Corporation and he fell down the ladder from there. Really wish he would've gone over clean vs HBK at Mania 9...definitely deserved to run with the Intercontinental title for a bit.

Tatanka physically somewhat resembled The Ultimate Warrior with face paint and tassels was pushed to be the replacement just like Luger had the All American thing to be the Hogan replacement. They were looking for equivalents from the end of 92 to about the end of 94 before they started creating their own type of stars.

I remember him fondly. To me, that represented the time in WWF when things last made any sense to the decades of wrestling that came before.
I think the Attitude Era came shortly after. Vince started to take on a "character" on the mic. And I never watched it again, until Vince bought WCW and I caught Ric Flair acting crazy.
The last time I watched WWE was to literally just watch Flair. That was the only appeal it had at all. The 60 year old man on the roster.
Thank God for AEW, just so I can remember wrestling in another way before I die.

Back then they could get away with it - as the internet was in its infancy - Today the casual fan has more access to what s going on behind the scenes and on live shows.

At least Tatanka is actually one half Native. Many of the other famous "indian" gimmick wrestlers were not. The Youngbloods tag team were hispanic from their father Ricky Romero. Chief Jay Strongbow was Italian American like Iron Eyes Cody LOL. Wahoo McDaniels was really Choctaw though.

Same with many "Russian" wrestlers. Boris Zhukov, Krusher Khrushchev, Ivan & Nikita Koloff, none were Russian or even Slavic.

At least Nikolai Volkoff was half Russian and the other half being another Slavic nation in Croatia. Also Vladimir Kozlov being Ukrainian wasn't far off. Rusev also represented Russia before switching to his Bulgarian roots. Even though he's a gypsy Bulgarian.

Tatanka is a pretty good worker even to this day and he's actually a great person to outside of the ring. I remember seeing him at an indie show and got a chance to talk with him and was a straight up class act.
From what I heard apparently Taker and Bret said to him that he was supposed to go over after the event took place. I think Tatanka could have gotten a decent IC run and maybe even a tag team belt too if they paired him up right. Anything would have been better than have him turn heel and join DiBiase's group that was total BS.
Though I think Bret should have been the main baby face around this time period, I think Tatanka should have been at least No.2 baby face instead of Lex. That experiment died on arrival and Tatanka was over so it would have worked.
Oh well, he's at least got a great outlook on life and still works to this day. Bless him

I think if Tatanka was around in the Golden Era of the 80’s, he’d be over and stay over. But since he came up in that New Generation era which shortly transitioned into the Attitude era, he kind of got lost in the shuffle. Chris Chavis himself is a peach of a guy. I think part of the problem is that they kept him undefeated for close to two years, but he never really managed to push through to that next level in terms of drawing power, his matches stayed decent but never memorable, and he just seemed to remain comfortable as a mid-card talent. After two years of not going backward, but not really progressing either, I can see why the company eventually thought they would try another angle (turning him heel) to see if he could progress from the other side, but pretty much the same happened, then they just kind of gave up. I actually understand why. And I really liked Tatanka, but he just never really had 'it'.

Tatanka is still my favourite wrestler of all time & I'll still stay that his push didn't happen because of Shawn Michaels,
I heard that Tatanka was meant to win the Intercontinental championship at wrestlemaina 9 but HBK went crying to WWF management saying that Tatanka was starting to have a bad attitude towards fans putting a stop to Tatanka getting a run with the belt.
This was also detailed in Bret Hart book

I liked him. As the smallest of 3 brothers, I liked him as a smaller babyface who was brave and had good stamina, because that was also how I was able to compete with my brothers when we wrestled.

I think I was tought that the style of poem most likely originates from people living close to the River Maigue in and around Croom, in County Limerick. Limerick City gave the county its name. If that's true, than the poems are named after the county, not the city in it, specifically.

I don't know if I remember that correctly, it's been a few decades since I left school.

Hbk and his kliq went to tell Vince that tatanka did not know how to act in the locker room and that he should not be trusted with the ic belt. So Vince did not let him win. The kliq dominated everything man. From 93-96 kliq rules >wwf.

If you could choose would you rather had Jannetty win the title later that summer (like he did) or Tatanka win it at Wrestlemania? If Tatanka wins it then the Jannetty win probably never happens and that was one of my favorite childhood wrestling memories.

I think Tatanka would’ve had a better career if after he left the WWF if he would’ve maybe stayed in the wrestling business. I thought for sure he was going to end up in WCW but he never went there either. Even if he would’ve just signed a two-year contract with WCW he would’ve been there when they were on top and after those two years were up he could probably go back to the WWF. I would say ECW but I can’t see him in ECW.

I thought I read somewhere he was accused of assaulting a woman along with Jimmy Del Ray and that was why he lost his push. I think he was eventually cleared

Supposedly it was a wrong place/wrong time thing, where Tatanka was driving or rooming with Del Ray when that incident happened, but he wasn't involved.
