You just take anything you want
Mine is yours but none of yours is mine
Broken backs make an easy climb
Watch them crack as you reach the top
Once it starts it can never stop
Walking away
Nothing to say
Just walking away
Walking away
That's your claim to fame
Nothing to say
Just walking away
Quit the race join the enemy
Back and forth is what you gotta be
Trace your steps form an alibi
Hear the words flow out it little lies
You'd be surprised what you can do
When the gun is pointing right at you
Walking away
That's your claim to fame
Nothing to say
Just walking away
Walking away
That's your claim to fame
Nothing to say
Just walking away
Walking away
That's your claim to fame
Nothing to say
Just walking away
Walking away
That's your claim to fame
Nothing to say
Just walking away
Walking away
That's your claim to fame
Nothing to say
Just walking away
The lyrics of "Walking Away" by Taylor Hawkins & The Coattail Riders seem to be about someone who is willing to take anything they want and do whatever it takes to get to the top, even if it means hurting others along the way. The opening lines compare this person's tendency to explode like an atom bomb, indicating the potential for destruction they hold. The next line, "You just take anything you want," further emphasizes this person's selfish actions.
The chorus of the song, with the repetition of "Walking away, that's your claim to fame, nothing to say, just walking away," seems to suggest that this person has a habit of leaving things behind after they've taken what they want. This behavior may have earned them a reputation as someone who moves on quickly, with little regard for others.
The second verse suggests that this person is not above deception to get what they want. They might even join forces with their enemies if it means getting ahead. The lyrics mention "little lies," indicating that this person may tell lies about their actions to justify what they've done. The final phrase, "When the gun is pointing right at you," further suggests that this person will do whatever it takes to avoid being caught, even if it means betraying others.
Overall, "Walking Away" seems to be a cautionary tale about the dangers of being overly ambitious, and the potential for harm that can result from selfish behavior.

This is from a fantastic album! Full of influences. From The Police to The Beatles to Queen to Sex Pistols and Rush. It is bloody brilliant!

There is so much early Police records tribute in here, with its' own groove. He rides that bell on the ride cymbal like Stewart Copeland and that background guitar lick is right out of the beautiful Andy Summers playbook. This is a truly great album. An amalgam of influences that made it's own signature. Gonna really miss hearing more from him. We liked all the same tunes--feel like I lost a friend in his prime.
