Come in with the Rain
Taylor Swift Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I could go back to every laugh
But I don't wanna go there anymore and I
Know all the steps up to your door
But I don't wanna go there anymore

Talk to the wind, talk to the sky
Talk to the man with the reasons why
And let me know what you find

I'll leave my window open
'Cause I'm too tired tonight to call your name
Just know I'm right here hoping
That you'll come in with the rain

I could stand up and sing you a song
But I don't wanna have to go that far and I
I've got you down
I know you by heart
And you don't even know where I start

Talk to yourself, talk to the tears
Talk to the man who put you here
And don't wait for the sky to clear

I'll leave my window open
'Cause I'm too tired tonight to call your name, oh
Just know I'm right here hoping
That you'll come in with the rain

I've watched you so long, screamed your name
I don't know what else I can say

But I'll leave my window open
'Cause I'm too tired at night for all these games
Just know I'm right here hoping
That you'll come in with the rain

I could go back to every laugh
But I don't wanna go there anymore

Overall Meaning

"Come in with the Rain" is a song by Taylor Swift about the longing for someone who has left. The song has a slow and mournful melody that effectively conveys the sense of sadness and emptiness that comes with missing someone dearly. In the first verse, Swift expresses her reluctance to revisit memories of happier times with this person, even though she knows their address by heart. Rather than dwelling on the past, she deepens her search by calling on the wind, the sky, and an all-knowing man for answers.

In the chorus, Swift sings about the desperation of waiting for someone she dearly misses. She leaves her window open and hopes that this person will come back to her, even if it means manifesting as rain. The second verse speaks of the irony that the person she misses knows so much about her but does not even know where to begin with their relationship. She advises them to talk to themselves, their tears, or the man who put them there to confront their own feelings, rather than waiting for clarity from the sky.

Overall, "Come in with the Rain" is a poignant reflection on the fleeting nature of relationships and the pain that comes with longing for someone out of reach.

@ohnoitsthenoooo

This has to be one of the most criminally underrated songs in her entire discography

@millennialdisposition

I think part of the problem is she never performed this live

@deardiaryfromauan

@@millennialdisposition WHAT??? This song never gets performed??? it is very underrated then 😭 maybe it's because she only wrote this and superstar and the other side of the door as bonus tracks for platinum edition 🤔

@israucok4067

HOAX😭

@raimavadhanam3275

People would love it so much more if the chorus had another section, I promise.

@idontevenhaveapla7224

Honestly, her best work is underrated. Her singles are her weakest songs. It's sad that people think of ME! Or Shake it off when they think of her, even though this exists.

i feel bad for those people who waste their time on hating Taylor swift instead of listening to these masterpieces

@fleurvnrcisse

exactly

@georginasmith8025

Most of them haven’t even heard her songs...just repeating the hate they’ve heard ab Taylor🙄

@toobaashraf4810

Wasted* for me. I was one of those people. Honestly I was just too young to realise how all her life media has twisted the way they represent her!! And as I grew up I just fell in love with her and started seeing her side of things
