Mary's Song
Taylor Swift Lyrics
She said
"I was seven, and you were nine
I looked at you like the stars that shined
In the sky, the pretty lights."
And our daddies used to joke about the two of us
Growing up and fallin' in love
And our mamas smiled, and rolled their eyes
And said, "Oh, my, my, my"
Take me back to the house in the backyard tree
You never did, you never did
Take me back when our world was one block wide
I dared you to kiss me, and ran when you tried
Just two kids, you and I
Oh, my, my, my, my
Well, I was sixteen when suddenly
I wasn't that little girl you used to see
But your eyes still shined, like pretty lights
And our daddies used to joke about the two of us
They never believed we'd really fall in love
And our mamas smiled, and rolled their eyes
And said, "Oh, my, my, my"
Take me back to the creek beds we turned up
Two AM, ridin' in your truck
And all I need is you next to me
Take me back to the time we had our very first fight
Slammin' of doors 'stead of kissin' goodnight
You stayed outside till the morning light
Oh, my, my, my, my
A few years had gone and come around
We were sittin' at our favorite spot in town
And you looked at me, got down on one knee
Take me back to the time when we walked down the aisle
Our whole town came, and our mamas cried
You said, "I do," and I did too
Take me home where we met so many years before
We'll rock our babies on the very front porch
After all this time, you and I
And I'll be eighty-seven, you'll be eighty-nine
I'll still look at you like the stars that shine in the sky
Oh, my, my, my

She wrote this about a cute couple that came over to her house for dinner years ago and she thought they were adorable and she wrote this.

@Morelia Trinidad that would be funny if it were true
The Storyteller
Yeah. And the story is real. The couple were together since forever like the lyrics. They must've been so happy with the song,or at least...surprised. How would they know they were talking with a song-writer maniac 😁

@Morelia Trinidad Are you freaking kidding me? 😂 😂 😂

Cap ^^^ Believe it or not my friend Kimberly wrote this song and sold it to Taylor swift for just $1000 when she was around 15 and it was about my brother who was 2 years older than her. I wish i was lying 😂

That’s awesome

Well, I was 16 when suddenly, I wasn't that little girl you used to see.

@Stephanie Long I don't think it's about parents..... isn't the song based on real couples..... Taylor's neighbors who were like 60 year old or something.....they were childhood friends....you know both of their parents were friends.....then..
You know at 16 ....people kinda grow up and certain feelings change then they fell in love during highschool I guess.....and got married afterwards....

Stephanie Long Parents always see their kids as their babies, no matter how old they actually are! My grandma (who passed away three years ago) used to see my mom and her siblings as her ”little kids” even though they are actually in their 60s and 70s. So your mom will probably always see you that way too. You'll probably find it endearing when you get older, but I understand that it can be annoying when you're 16.
