Concerto No. 1
Tchaikovsky P.I. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Why - Do you do the things that make you lie?
Cry - It does not excuse all the lies
Fate - God led you to this place to see
See -That you will never get to me
No one can get to me
Feel -All the hate that will make me feel
Touch -The power that made you reveal
Pain - And the facade of who you see
See -That you'll never get to me
No one can get to me
Dire routine passion show
No one will ever know
Can you cure me?
Can you see?
The broken path that gets to me
You can't cure me now you must see

You have created the society
No one can get to me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Tchaikovsky P.I.'s song Concerto No. 1 seems to be a poignant observation of human behavior and relationships. The song begins with a question - "why do you do the things that make you lie?" and highlights the fact that lying cannot be excused by tears. It then goes on to reflect on fate and the belief that it's God's plan that led someone to where they are. The artist then conveys the knowledge that the person will never get to them, no matter how hard they try. This shows that the artist is not willing to let anyone control or manipulate them, and they are immune to the other person's attempts to hurt them.

The lyrics then describe feelings of hate and power that were once hidden but have now been revealed, leading to pain and a facade that the other person portrays. But the artist reiterates that no one can ever get to them and that no one will ever know the dire routine passion show that the other person is putting on. This hint that the person who is trying to get to the artist is putting on a façade, and the artist knows what they are up to. Finally, the artist asks the other person if they can cure them or see the broken paths that have led them to be this way. But the artist concludes that society has created the person in question, and no one can get to them.

On the 4th of July, 2022, I will celebrate my 100th birthday. I don't know when I first started singing Tchaikovsky's First, but I think it must have been in the 1930's when words were written for "Tonight We Love" - and I'm still singing it. God has been good to me and I can still sing although I've gone from first tenor to baritone. I just found this video on YouTube and love it!

Can't argue with that.

Undoubtedly. Also, along with Beethoven's 5th symphony and Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Richard Strauss, the greatest orchestral opening.
