Ever
Team Sleep Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You waste your life making film
Through the frames
You revealed
The screen goes down
The tape runs out
Or the machine ceases
To operate
She'll team up
With our parade

We watch all the tapes push pause
And wave over and over at the screen
The frames go down
The tape runs out
Or the machine ceases
To operate
She'll team up
With our parade

We watch all the tapes push pause
And wave over and over at the screen
The frames go down
The tape runs out
Or the machine ceases
To operate

She'll team up
With our parade

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Team Sleep's "Ever" point to the concept of the fleeting nature of life and the idea that we cannot escape mortality. The lines "you waste your life making film" suggest that we constantly record and document our lives, but all these memories can be lost when the tapes run out or machines stop functioning. Additionally, the line "she'll team up with our parade" could refer to death joining the procession of our lives as we ultimately move towards our end.

The repetition of the lines "we watch all the tapes push pause and wave over and over at the screen" drive home the idea that we have a tendency to hold onto life's memories and dwell in nostalgia, while ignoring the inevitable passage of time. The song suggests that while we want to hold onto our memories, it's important to accept that nothing lasts forever.

I know why this song was created but I wish I could personally thank Chino for giving me the most amazing wedding song. My husband and I had everyone in the room crying

The first time I heard this song was from my aunt. She is a big deftones fan (reason why Iam too and here ) but I was little, sleeping in her room and woke up in the middle of the night and this song was playing. She lived in the city so the room was filled with this soft, orange glow from the street lights. Her closet door had a deftones poster that was like techno looking. I remember laying on the bed staring at that poster listening to the song. I got up and looked out the windows. I saw the quiet, empty street, the soft glow of street lights gleaming off the window. I then walked out the front door to the middle of the street and I could still hear the song playing out in the street. I remember hearing the silent sound of the city with the ambient noise from the freeway. I was twirling slowly and looking at the orange glow all around the houses and in the sky. It was cold, and not a soul out. I felt sad, happy, calm, even nothing. Idk, it reminds me of smoking pot, the euphoria, dopamine, melancholy feeling. I would pause a few times, to stare at the skyline of the city, then I went back inside the house and went back to sleep. This song always reminds me of that entire moment and I wish I could live it over again.

@MinusCube

I totally love this description… what a moment. Sometimes these things are the things that stay with us forever, and we don’t know that they will at the time. But so cool to have a soundtrack to that time, that you can revisit

Maybe you should be a writer
