Shout
Let it all out
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I'm talking to you
Come on
Shout
Let it all out
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I'm talking to you
Come on
In violent times
You shouldn't have to sell your soul
In black and white
They really really ought to know
Those one-track minds
That took you for a working boy
Kiss them goodbye
You shouldn't have to jump for joy
You shouldn't have to jump for joy
Shout
Shout
Let it all out
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I'm talking to you
Come on
They gave you life
And in return you gave them hell
As cold as ice
I hope we live to tell the tale
I hope we live to tell the tale
Shout
Shout
Let it all out
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I'm talking to you
Come on
Shout
Shout
Let it all out
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I'm talking to you
Come on
Shout
Shout
Let it all out
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I'm talking to you
Come on
And when you've taken down your guard
If I could change your mind
I'd really love to break your heart
I'd really love to break your heart
Shout
Shout
Let it all out
These are the things I can do without (break your heart)
Come on (really love to break your heart)
I'm talking to you
Come on
Shout
Shout
Let it all out
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I'm talking to you
So come on
Shout
Shout
Let it all out
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I'm talking to you
Come on
Shout
Shout
Let it all out
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I'm talking to you (they really really ought to know)
Come on
Shout
Shout
Let it all out (I'd really love to break your heart)
These are the things I can do without
(I'd really love to break your heart)
Come on
I'm talking to you
So come on
Shout
Shout
Let it all out
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I'm talking to you
The lyrics of this song by Tears for Fears, "Shout," present a message of frustration about living in a world where people are constantly pressured to conform and to take life too seriously. The repeated phrase "let it all out" is a call to everyone to not hold their emotions inside but to express themselves fully, to shout and scream if necessary, as a way of releasing their tensions and frustrations. The lines "In violent times, you shouldn't have to sell your soul" suggest that in times of turmoil and conflict, individuals may feel like they have to compromise their values and beliefs to survive. However, the singer argues that it is better to stand up for oneself and refuse to be a "working boy" who just follows orders. Finally, the lines "And when you've taken down your guard, if I could change your mind, I'd really love to break your heart" suggest that the singer desires to truly connect with people, to break down their barriers and reveal their true selves.
Overall, the song is a plea for individuals to embrace their emotions and speak their truth, rather than succumbing to pressure to conform or to hide their feelings. The singer recognizes that there may be consequences for doing so, but argues that it is ultimately worthwhile to take a stand and be true to oneself.

My mom used to always tell me that when I was little, I'm 41 now, that every time this song came on I would drop what I was doing and run into the room and just stand there listening. She died 3 weeks ago. Brings me good memories of her. 😊
