Whispers
Tearstained Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This planet dies slow
Magma rises from below
The sky cracks open wide
Life on earth will die

Earthquakes shake the ground
Ice caps melt, water surrounds
Natures force attacks with wrath
Mankind walks a broken path

[Solo]

Pollute the sky, kill of the seas
Bacteria, plague and disease
The quest of man is to destroy
But nature is well on its course
Industrial technology
The downfall of society
Nations will fall, the sky turns black
Humanity under attack
All prophecy spoken in vain
Words need not answers to explain

We cannot escape our fate
Time is lost for it's too late

The cries of warning reduced to whispers
Flames of hope reduced to embers

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Tearstained's song "Whispers" discuss the inevitable destruction of planet Earth caused by human negligence and ignorance towards nature. The song starts by painting a gloomy picture of the planet's state, with magma rising from below and the sky cracking open wide. As the song proceeds, we hear about the various ways in which nature retaliates against human activities – earthquakes shake the ground, ice caps melt, and water surrounds. However, despite nature's wrath, the quest of man is to destroy as he pollutes the sky, kills off the seas, and spreads bacteria, plagues, and disease.

The lyrics also highlight the negative impact that industrial technology and society's downfall have had on the environment. Bleak images of nations falling as the sky turns black with humanity under attack are invoked. Despite all the prophesies and warnings that have been spoken, they have all fallen from grace as time runs out, and it becomes too late for humanity to escape their fate. This is why the cries of warning reduced to whispers, and the flames of hope reduced to embers. In essence, the song refers to humanity's failure to take care of the environment and the inevitable consequences of their actions.

Took my wife to her first RT gig. All she could talk about after was how good MJ was. Couldn't really disagree. Astonishingly good.

I was there. It was freaking great. Thank you Iowa City Arts Council or whomever put it on.

I saw an interview with RT where they asked him about the drummer. His response? "He's quite a find, isn't he?"
