All my life
Technicolour Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To all the friends we've lost
And all the things we've seen
There's just so much time
And miles in between
Well it's been a long, long time
Tell me where you've been
Tell me what you've found
refrain:
It started out as fun
Never slowing down
Now I'm stuck on the run
All my life
Waited for a song to sing
All my life
Always something missing
All my life
I've been nearly broken
But I ain't choking now
To all the time I've lost
I'm raising up this glass
It's all been worth the cost
But the candle's burning fast
refrain
All my life
Waited for a song to sing
All my life
Always something missing
All my life
I've been nearly broken
But I ain't choking now
The song "All My Life" by Technicolour talks about a person's journey in life. Starting with the first verse, the song acknowledges the people and things that the person has lost and the distance that separates them. The second verse then builds on the theme of distance as the singer talks about not seeing an old friend for a "long, long time" and the desire to know where they've been and what they've found. The refrain follows up on this sense of distance in a different way, describing a life that started off as fun and carefree but has now turned into a race that the singer feels trapped in.
The song's chorus, "All my life, waited for a song to sing / All my life, always something missing / All my life, I've been nearly broken / But I ain't choking now" is where the singer reflects on their life's journey. The lyrics suggest that there has always been something missing in the singer's life, and that all of life's challenges have nearly broken them, but they have persevered.
The final lines of the song describe the singer raising a glass to the time they have lost and acknowledging that everything they have gone through has been worth it, even though time is quickly running out.
