Wilson studied piano and violin at Tuskegee Institute. After working in the Speed Webb and Louis Armstrong bands, he joined Benny Carter's Chocolate Dandies in 1933. In 1935 he joined the Benny Goodman Trio (which consisted of Goodman, Wilson and drummer Gene Krupa, later expanded to the Benny Goodman Quartet with the addition of Lionel Hampton). The trio performed during the big band's intermissions. By joining the Trio, Wilson became the first black musician to perform in public with a previously all-white jazz group.
In the 1930s and 1940s he recorded fifty hit records with various singers such as Lena Horne and Helen Ward, including many of Billie Holiday's most successful records. During these years he also recorded many highly regarded sessions with a wide range of important swing musicians, such as Lester Young, Roy Eldridge, Charlie Shavers, Red Norvo, Buck Clayton and Ben Webster.
Wilson formed his own short-lived big band in 1939, then led a sextet at Cafe Society from 1940 to 1944. In the 1950s he taught at the Juilliard School. Wilson performed as a soloist and with pick-up groups up until the final years of his life.
You're Mine You
Teddy Wilson Lyrics

I'll make you love me, wait and see
Both day and night and night and day
You're gonna see a lot of me
I'm gonna haunt you, I'm gonna haunt you
Oh what a pest I'm gonna be
Both day and night and night and day
I'll be the spoon in your coffee
The knife that butters your bread
If I sound a little bit off it
That's because because because
You've gone to my head
If you're in China, I'll go to China
I'll never never let you free
Both day and night and night and day
You're gonna see a lot of me
Teddy Wilson's song "You're So Desirable" is a love song that captivates the listener with its promise of persistence and devotion. The lyrics are a declaration of the singer's undying love and his determination to have the object of his affections reciprocate his feelings. The first line of the song, "I'm gonna get you, I'm gonna get you," sets the tone for the rest of the lyrics, which are focused on the singer's unwavering quest to make his beloved love him back. He promises that he will "make you love me, wait and see," both during the day and at night.
The lyrics of the song express the singer's relentless pursuit of his love interest, who he plans to "haunt" until she can no longer resist him. He infers that he will go to great lengths to be with her, even if that means following her to China. The third verse of the song is a metaphor for the singer's obsession with the object of his affection. He likens himself to a spoon in her coffee and the knife that butters her bread, emphasizing his desire to be an essential part of her life.
The song is an example of Teddy Wilson's jazz piano virtuosity and his ability to craft memorable melodies. The lyrics are straightforward, yet they convey a complex range of emotions. While the lyrics may come off as stalkerish or overbearing, the singer's smooth delivery and the sultry musical arrangement infuse the song with a sense of sensuality and romance.
