For A Lifetime
Teedra Moses Lyrics

But you never seem to get back in return
What you give
So your heart's in first through third degree burns
And in the end, you just want to give up on love
Oh, you're gonna get yours
Sure as all that breathe will die
A heart that's pure won't be denied
The kinda lovin' that'll rock ya
The kinda lovin' that'll keep ya
Hold ya for a lifetime
Even in the sad times
Your guard's up, and your heart's cold
This might be the one
But you will never know
You're holding onto pain from so long ago
You gotta let it go, you gotta let it go
Oh, and I promise you're gonna find love
Sure as all that breathe will die
And showers fall from April skies
A heart that's pure won't be denied
The kinda lovin' that'll rock ya
The kinda lovin' that'll keep ya
Hold ya for a lifetime
Even in the hard times
Even when it's going down
You're gonna find someone's riding with you
You don't have to be alone
You just gotta hold on
You're gonna find true love
Sure as all that breathe will die
And showers fall from April skies
A heart that's pure won't be denied
The kinda lovin' that'll rock ya
The kinda lovin' that'll hold...
Hold ya for a lifetime
Oh, oh.. hold ya for a lifetime
Even in the bad times
The lyrics of Teedra Moses's "For A Lifetime" are about the struggles and doubts that arise when it comes to love but the assurance that true love will eventually prevail. It begins with the idea that despite giving so much to a relationship, there doesn't seem to be any returns leading to heartbreak and frustration. The analogy of "first through third-degree burns" illustrates how intense the feeling of rejection can be. Moses acknowledges that wanting to give up on love is a common feeling but reminds that the reward will come eventually to those with pure hearts.
The next verse focuses on how a past relationship's pain can lead to not trusting new relationships, even if they seem like they could be the right one. Moses advises the listener to overcome this state of mind and let the pain go to find true love. The chorus reiterates the idea that pure love will come to those who seek it, no matter how hard times may get. Having someone to hold on to through thick and thin is what will make love last a lifetime.
The lyrics resonate with anyone who’s been hurt in love and had trust issues in new relationships. Moses's smooth R&B vocals add a sense of comfort and warmth, which is essential when discussing the topic of love. Overall, the lyrics of "For A Lifetime" provide a sense of hope and reassurance that true love exists and is worth the wait.
