I Promise To Remember
Teenagers (Frankie Lymon & The) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh, oh
I promise to love you
No matter what you do
I want you, I need you
I love you through and through
Oh, oh, oh, oh
I promise to be true
[CHORUS]
I promise to remember
The meaning of romance
If I've done something wrong
Give me one more chance

Oh, oh, oh, oh
I promise to be true

[VERSE 1]
Oh, oh, my darling
I have promised
To give you my heart
Oh, darling promise me
We will never part
I know I'm not a king

And I'm not very wise
But something that you must realize

Overall Meaning

These heartfelt lyrics convey a message of lifelong commitment, regardless of any mistakes or flaws. The singer promises to love their partner unconditionally, no matter what they may do, and to remain faithful to their love. The chorus emphasizes the importance of keeping the romance alive in the relationship, and asks for forgiveness if the singer ever falls short.

The lyrics not only express the depth of the singer's love, but they also reflect the time period in which the song was written - the 1950s. During this time, romantic relationships were often viewed as long-term commitments, and divorce was not as common as it is today. The promise of eternal love and faithfulness was a common theme in love songs of this era.

Every so often I'm reminded of how great Frankie Lymon was and how great an influence in music he and the Teenager's we're, back in the day.

please dont compare Michael to Frankie they are from two different eras, both brilliant in their own way. Strangely enough I discovered Frankie Lymon through reading a Michael Jackson Bio. I have a 5 record set of his bought years ago.

Linda Dee

Frankie was a great lead but the Teenagers had superb harmonies and timing. Still love to turn up the background frequencies and enjoy the gorgeous harmony they produced.

John abramson

spot on re harmonies and add the incomparable sherman garnes , with his bass intro and melding his bass with the group,

I have to hear the one where he hums, never heard that one

Joshua Brooks

This definitely sounds like the original recording. Memories of many many hours spent in the men's room at school trying to prepare for a talent show.
