C'est pas ça qui me moyens
L'argent, tu vas dedja-o
Moi sa me degba-o
Je connais ton plan déjà
Pour m'avoir c'est pas comme ça
Blagué -tué c'est pas bon-deh
Coupé-décalé sa me plait.
Faut seulement coupé faut décalé
Coupé décalé
Faut coupé faut décalé
Tu veut me breaker
Mais je sui pas ton niandé-o
Avec moi faut pas blô
Si tu veut etre mon mogô
Si tu sait couper là tu vas m'enjailler-ho
Si tu c'est décalé
Hum sa la sa peut me tuer même
Faut seulement coupé faut décalé
Coupé décalé
Faut coupé faut décalé
In Teeyah's song "Couper Decaler," she sings about a style of dance originating from Ivory Coast called "Coupé-Decalé," which translates to "cut and run." She expresses that she enjoys this style of dance, and she is not impressed by guys who try to show off or impress her with their money. She already knows their plan to win her over and finds it uninteresting. She warns them not to joke, let alone kill, to get her attention because "blagué-tué c'est pas bon-deh" ("joking-killing is not good"). Instead, if they know how to cut and run, they can have a chance with her.
Teeyah sings in a mix of French and Ivory Coast's local language, Dioula. The chorus emphasizes the need to cut and run, which refers to the high-energy movements and footwork involved in Coupé-Decalé dance style. Moreover, when she says "Niandé-o," it means "boyfriend" in Dioula. She instructs her potential suitors that they should know how to Cut and Run; otherwise, they cannot measure up to her standards. Overall, the song is about embracing the beauty and energy of Coupé-Decalé dance style and integrating it into the search for the perfect match.
