Slow Burn
Telepathic Teddy Bear Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What if your actions didnt matter
What if you didn't have a choice
What if the future held no answers
What if you never heard your voice

and if the river takes you deeper
aim yourself and open up your arms
maybe its not your fault
maybe its not your fault
maybe its not your fault
maybe its not your fault

so what if your insides feel so empty
wouldn't you have something to fill
what if you were avoiding meaning
what if the weight is your free will

I was like you
broken in two
the more I fought the more I knew
I heard a sound
within I found
the less control the more unbound

cause maybe its not your fault
maybe its not your fault
maybe its not your fault
maybe its not your fault

baby, its not your fault
baby, its not your fault

baby, its not your fault
baby, its not your fault

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Telepathic Teddy Bear's song Slow Burn present an introspective reflection on the sense of responsibility and the weight of decisions on a personal level. The opening lines evoke a feeling of confusion and powerlessness, as if the choices made in life are ultimately insignificant or predetermined. The questioning tone challenges the listener to consider the possibility of living in a vacuum of agency where one's voice cannot be heard, and the future is uncertain.

The metaphor of the river that takes the person deeper suggests that life can be a journey of self-discovery, but also a test of endurance. The advice given is to aim oneself and open up one's arms, indicating that embracing life and its challenges can help alleviate the feeling of being trapped or helpless. The lines that repeat the mantra "maybe it's not your fault" point to the possibility of accepting one's circumstances and letting go of guilt or shame, which often result from societal expectations or personal failures.

Additionally, the lyrics present a hopeful message of finding purpose and meaning in life. The lines that acknowledge the sense of emptiness and avoidance of meaning propose that filling the void requires confronting one's choices and taking charge of one's life. The declaration that "I was like you, broken in two" creates a sense of commonality and empathy, indicating that everyone struggles with their own insecurities and fears. The final lines that repeat the reassurance of "baby, it's not your fault" emphasize the importance of self-compassion and self-love, as well as the need to recognize that one's struggles do not define them.

Just went through a tough break-up, he was everything to me...but in the end I just didn't make him happy, ( he wasn't happy with life itself) He kept saying it was not my fault, and these were his issues...but no matter what I felt like there was something I should have done. But this song has helped in so many ways. Thank you.

*****  It will be tough, keep a positive mind and love yourself. You're worth something...and someday you'll meet the right person who thinks that you're everything to them. Some relationships take place to give us a lesson, I was too naive..and I've learned that. Take something out of the relationship, learn from it, and become a better person from it...and don't let this get to you. You'll get through it. :) I wish you luck.
